YMCA of Brandon 2012—2013 Annual Report
The past year was one of the most exciting in the history of the YMCA of Brandon culminating with
the opening of our new Dood Cristall Family YMCA. After several years of planning, fundraising
and construction we proudly opened our doors to the community on August 26. The new facility
is designed to serve more of the general public and those individuals who chose to be members
than the Y has had the capability of serving than ever before. Whether you walk in the door or are
driving down Princess, you can see that the Y is a vibrant, active place full of people pursuing
health and wellness. After spending some time here, you begin to see that the Y is not just about
the building, it is about the people who are a part of it.
This year we celebrate all of the people who make our Y one of the leading charities in Brandon.
We thank our staff, each of whom is there every day to ensure that members have the best per-
sonal experience possible when visiting the Y. We celebrate the membership services staff who
greet every member coming into the facility. We celebrate the staff who look after the hundreds
of children in our school age programs and preschool Child Care centres. We celebrate the instruc-
tor teaching a child to swim and a camp counselor mentoring a child in summer camp. We thank
all of the volunteers who contribute so much to the operation of our programs and events – from

those setting up the race for our Annual Spring Run, teaching an Aquafit or other fitness class,
serving on the board of directors or helping with our capital or annual Strong Kids campaigns.
Most of all we would like to celebrate the members and other users of our YMCA programs
and facilities, for it is for them that our Association exists. The Y is for everyone. It’s for a
mom entrusting her infant to us when she goes off to work, its an octogenarian participating
in our Live Y’ers class. It is for a group of guys gathering to play basketball a couple of week-
day afternoons or young boys and girls learning leadership skills in one of our youth programs.
The Y is also for the friendship that grows among individuals who see each other in our pro-
gram areas every week.
The Y believes that everyone should have these same opportunities and we will help those
who can’t afford to access them on their own. While we are proud of our bright new facility,
we are most proud to be here for of all of you.
Our ultimate goal is for children, youth and families to embrace fun, healthy habits that become a lifelong practice. With an emphasis on total health in spirit, mind and body, YMCA programs instill values of respect, responsibility, caring, honesty, equality, and inclusiveness. Through YMCA child care, recreation, fitness, leadership development, camp and youth programs, the YMCA helps children and youth build character and resilience and encourage personal growth and well-rounded lives.
The YMCA of Brandon has become synonymous with two core services that have
grown over the past decade in response to the changing needs of our community:
Child Care and Before & After School Programs.
The YMCA of Brandon is the largest child care provider in Western Manitoba.
Nearly 500 families access our infant, preschool, or Before & After School pro-
grams every day.

The YMCA has been exercising, inventing sports and promoting an active lifestyle for over 150 years. At the YMCA, we care about your total heath in spirit, mind and body - and believe that each element is equally important for achieving overall health.
To us, health is more than just being active. It's about having a network of support, a
job, good working conditions, education and literacy and a safe place to live, while
also staying active. That's why YMCAs offer programs in all these areas for individu-
als, groups and families of all ages and abilities.
