ASL 1- a note before your Doorbuster

This six weeks, you will be preparing a 1 minute signing (1 min. minimum), as a test grade.

Welcome ASL 1- Doorbuster: Please copy all notes below-

ASL word order: TIME OBJECT SUBJECT VERB Gloss: --- SISTER ME HAVE English: “I have a sister.” Or, you can phrase it as a rhetorical question (where you

ask and answer it- not really asking for someone to answer)

Gloss: FAMILY ME HAVE? SISTER 1, BROTHER, 2 English: “I have one sister and two brothers in my family.”

Now, I will explain (recording will play while I sign-I will play this recording from the front- you may begin the next slide if you are done with the Doorbuster before I sign).

Eg. “I went to the store yesterday.”

Now, copy each of these English sentences, and then gloss these ten sentences- a word in capital letters for each sign (in your composition book). Finished? 1. “The teacher knows English.” 2. “The student knows Spanish.” 3. “The man goes to college.” 4. “The woman is a teacher.” 5. “The girl is deaf, the boy is hearing.” 6. “No, that is not right.” 7. “Where do you go to school?” 8. “Turn on the lights.” 9. “Close the door, and open a window.” 10. “The class is finished at 3:00.”

Finished? Copy Unit B, Part 3 (and Parts 1 and 2 if you have time) -use the icons on the iPad to find the unit if possible (or, see me for help

if you cannot find it). I will know you are done when I see you signing the new unit When everyone is done, we will see answers!

Welcome ASL 2! A quick note before your Doorbuster: This six weeks, using Unit 13 vocabulary and old signs, you

will be signing about a room you design in your house (real or imaginary house).

This will be a test grade.

Remember, Unit 13 list is on the front table.

I will give you details/instructions tomorrow.

But, today’s work is to prepare you and help you practice what you need to be able to do- so work hard and ask for help when needed!

Ready? On to the next slide and Doorbuster!!!

Welcome ASL 2! Today- Doorbuster: Please copy all notes below this line- Tips on correctly signing items in a room:

1. To describe a room, sign from the door perspective (as if standing at the door, looking in).

2. Be sure you have transitions from item to item.

Eg. use a building feature (corner, door) or the most recent item (table, couch); then show the new item going from the last one (“place” the new item in space).

3. Classifiers will help a lot: these help you show shape, size, and location in the room.

room design test), and sign the 8 classifiers in the picture.10 min.- Watch the Unit 13 video and copy all signs to learn

your group can see the pictures. Take turns signing an item in the photo (locating it-right, left, high, low using classifiers), and others in the group should point to the items. Each person takes a turn signing an item on picture one, then do pictures 2-4.
