Danny talks about his all new Drop and Roll show which

youR_own?It’s so much more fun to be putting on a
show whilst riding with my friends when
everyone can push each other. Performing
as a team also helps keep the tempo of the
show high. How_did_you_come_up_with

I thought of the name after seeing a
YouTube clip of the American infomercial
on what to do if you ever catch
fi re; “Stop, drop, and roll”

Even though everyone on the team
focuses on trials riding we are also
all keen mountain bikers. Fabio is
actually a national level Motocross
rider and Ali does a lot of climbing
to keep his old bones nimble. I’ve
been known to compete at regional
level sheep sheering competitions
on my native Isle of Skye.
How_do_you_practice_for_

being out riding the streets in Glasgow
and nearer to showtime, riding the new

Glasgow Club personal trainer,
Billy Bremner gives us his tips
on getting fi t for Glasgow’s
summer of sport!
TOTALLYTOTALLYGlasgow Club personal trainer,
RIPPED!
TECHNIQUEAn important key factor in training is
technique. Don’t worry about how heavy
you can lift. Only increase your weights
once you can comfortably lift the weight
you are on with good form.
A KEY LIFT - THE SQUATAn excellent exercise utilising the
quads, glutes, and core muscles
amongst others.
Technique: Stance – feet roughly shoulder width
apart, toes in a 10 to 2 position, shoulders
back and down, chest high. Place fi ngers
behind your head and push elbows back.
Keeping the tension in the torso, breath in
to prepare and, holding that breath, begin
the squat. Try and lower until you hips are
below your knees. If you start to bend at
the hips – stop! and start again. Breathe
out on the way up.
TRAIN LIKE A MANDemonstrate good lifting technique, return
the weights to the rack when you fi nish
and follow good spotting technique. Allow
others to ‘work in’ with you when feasible
and respect the area in which you train.
The only people who will drop weights
are Olympic lifters and power lifters, and
they will only do this when they are using
equipment especially designed for this
purpose.
TO GET LEAN – EAT CLEAN
Eating right requires the same discipline,
determination and organisation as your
training.
If you fail to prepare, you are preparing
to fail. Eating clean is about knowing what
you are putting into your body, keeping it
natural and balancing your nutrients.

I started when I was 4 years old. My big

it looked great fun, so my mum took me

I really enjoy performing on fl oor, I love
getting to dance to music as well as all
the tumbles. My favourite and probably
most challenging move would be the fi rst
tumble in my fl oor routine which is called
a double straight. This is where you do
two somersaults in the air in a straight
position. I love it because you feel like you
are fl ying.championships.
are fl ying.are fl ying.

1. From a young age you have been interested in sport. What life lessons did you learn from playing sport?
Life lessons teaches you determination on how
to win but also how to fail and I think this is
critical as you don’t learn or achieve anything
in life without trying. Sport gives people a
safe place to start trying to meet some of
their ambition, get over their anxieties, how to
connect with people, depend on people and be
part of a team.
2. What advice would you give to anyone inspired by the action this summer who wants to get involved in sport?
Go out and try as much as you possibly can.
Try something new. This is such an exciting
time and we are in such a fortunate and
privileged position here in Glasgow this year
to be witnessing the wrap up and beginning
of a fantastic Commonwealth Games but also
have this fantastic inspiration in both sport and
cultural events.
3. So far Glasgow 2014 has involved young people in its journey through the creation of the mascot and opening the applications for the volunteering programme to young people. How can young people stay involved and empowered during this final leg?
If you are on social media- these are fantastic
ways of staying in touch but, the streets of
Glasgow are going to be filled with absolute
magic during the games time and at the wrap up
of the games time. I would also ask every young
person to think about what they can do within
their communities to make a difference. Legacy
doesn’t happen to you, it happens by you so I
challenge each young person to really get out
there and make Glasgow shine.
4. You studied sports management and have gone on to have an incredible career - What advice would you give to young people who want a career in sports management?
Having a passion for something you believe
in and in my case growing up in the city of
New Orleans, I had a passion for my city,
neighbourhood and sport. So when I was
finished my own career of wrestling I wanted
to be able to make change through sports,
if you have a real drive whether that’s something local around your neighbourhood or
something bigger and broader like running a
Commonwealth Games just be passionate about
that.
5. What will make the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games different from other Commonwealth Games?
First and foremost the people of Glasgow.
Glaswegians are going to make this Commonwealth Games truly spectacular.
The XX Commonwealth Games are coming to
Glasgow on the 23 July to the 3 August! We were
lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with
Chief Executive David Grevemberg.

Staying true with the “People Make Glasgow”
theme, these Commonwealth Games are going
to be warm, welcoming, exciting, and dynamic
and ultimately the backdrop that is Glasgow
is absolutely fantastic. During the actual
commonwealth games and beyond this city will
shine wrapping its arms around 11 days of
fantastic sport and culture.
6. London 2012 had many magical moments which really helped to inspire a nation – what do you think will be Glasgow 2014’s magical moments?
I think Glasgow 2014 will have plenty of magical
moments. Of course you will have fantastic
sporting achievements on the field of play but
the story of Glasgow with people coming from
afar to discover this great city is going to be
magic in itself. If people weren’t familiar with
Glasgow before the Commonwealth Games they
certainly will be afterwards.
7. For Families and young people who missed out on tickets for the games, how can they get involved in celebrating Glasgow 2014?
We of course have the Queen’s Baton Relay, but
we also have a very rich and packed cultural
programme that’s offered throughout Scotland
but also here in Glasgow during Games time.
We are going to have Festival 2014 and there is
going to be plenty of opportunities for people to
join in the magic.
8. What will be the legacy of the Games, firstly for the city of Glasgow, secondly for its young people and finally for you personally?
Fantastic infrastructure and venues which is
a legacy for the citizens of Glasgow and for
visitors that may be coming for sporting and
entertainment events.
For young people these Games have really
created an expectation that major events,
sporting activity and cultural activity can be led
by children.
For me personally we have a broader understanding of what it means to be a part
of the Commonwealth, connected with the
Commonwealth but more importantly with all
that great conversation that people have, the
courage to take great action, change things in
their communities which can go on and change
things around the world.
