CHI Memorial continues to receive accolades for providing top quality health care in the Chattanooga region. Here are just two of the many awards and honors earned by CHI Memorial.
CHI Memorial receives Four Star ratingCHi Memorial received a four star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The most common overall hospital quality star rating is three stars. Only 20 percent of the 4,599 hospitals included in the survey received a four star rating. CHi Memorial scored above the national average in mortality, safety of care, readmission, and patient experience. “Our physicians and associates are committed to providing the best care everyone who comes through our doors expects and deserves,” says Larry Schumacher, CEO, CHi Memorial and senior vice president, operations, Southeast Division, Catholic Health initiatives. “This four star rating validates our commitment to providing excellent and compassionate care every day.”
The overall rating shows how well an individual hospital is performing compared to other hospitals in the U.S., on average. CMS uses data regularly reported by hospitals and summarizes up to 64 quality measures into a star rating. This rating is designed to help individuals, family members and care givers compare hospitals and easily understand complex quality information.
Generosity is the theme of this year’s annual report. Here at CHi Memorial foundation we are incredibly grateful for the generosity of each and every donor. Your gifts do make a difference, and together your dollars are transforming lives across our community.
Please take a few minutes to read about the many programs and services at CHi Memorial that benefit from your support. Providing superior health care is our goal, and we could not achieve this without your help. We are happy to announce that since its inception in 2001, CHi Memorial foundation has received more than $42M in donations. 100% of these donations go directly to the donor designated purpose and stay local.
Thank you for allowing us to care for you and your family. With your continued support, we look forward to impacting lives, making a difference and healing our community.

CHi Memorial foundation’s 12th annual Pink! gala, chaired by Ronna-Renee and Jeff Jackson and Amber and Hodgen Mainda, raised $390,000 to benefit the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center at CHi Memorial.
More than 1,000 guests joined us on Saturday, January 28 for an enchanted evening as the Chattanooga Convention Center was transformed into 1950s Las Vegas with glittering show girls, vintage Vegas signage and lights, and piano lounge. A gourmet four course dinner, premier live and silent auction and dancing until midnight to the band Party on the Moon highlighted a wonderful evening of celebration. A special thank you to first Tennessee Bank, our presenting sponsor.
Because of the generosity of first Tennessee Bank and hundreds of sponsors and donors, we were able to bring another 3D Tomosynthesis machine to our community, providing more women this enhanced technology.

The new 3D Tomosynthesis machine provides the radiologist with 3D mammography images to review and evaluate densities which might otherwise be obstructed by the dense tissue.
Thank you so much for your generous support of Pink! 2017 and for helping CHi Memorial to continue to provide much needed funds to ensure the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center has the latest technology to serve all women throughout our region, regardless of ability to pay.
last year, 440 women were diagnosed with Breast Cancer through the Maryellen locher Breast Center, more than eight each and every week of the year. these are our friends, neighbors, mothers and wives.

Danette Henry Memorial Golf Tournament
the 9th annual danette Henry Memorial Golf tournament raises more than $30,000 for Cancer Patients at CHI Memorial.
On Saturday, September 17, 2016, 113 golfers gathered at Chatata Valley Golf Course in Cleveland, Tennessee to honor the memory of Danette Henry at the 9th Annual Danette Henry Memorial Golf Tournament.
Danette’s surviving family organizes the tournament each year to raise awareness and support of ovarian cancer, a disease she fought for several years before she passed away in 2008.
Proceeds from the annual event, totaling more than $180,000 in 9 years benefit a fund set up in her name at CHi Memorial foundation, which is used to support cancer patients at CHi Memorial.
This year the tournament raised over $30,000. Thanks to the generosity of the tournament’s sponsors and players, many patients and families facing ovarian cancer are receiving treatment for their bodies as well as their spirits through the Davenport infusion Center and Danette Henry family Oasis.

17th annual Cam Busch endowed arts for Health lecture Series and Party Welcomed musician, singer, composer and teacher dr. ysaye Barnwell.
CHi Memorial foundation and the Hunter Museum of American Art hosted the seventeenth annual Cam Busch Endowed Arts for Health Lecture Series on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Hunter Museum. Dr. Ysaye Barnwell delighted the audience with an exciting performance – sharing her vision of sound and voice. The Cam Busch Endowed Arts for Health Lecture Series is part of the Arts Medicine Program at CHi Memorial, and is designed to educate the community about the benefits of using different forms of art in healthcare.
CHi Memorial is one of 2,500 hospitals nationwide who offer arts programming to supplement healing
environments, enhance mental and emotional recovery and create soothing ambiance for patients, visitors, families, staff, volunteers and the medical community.A special announcement was made at the event recognizing the outstanding commitment to music and to CHi Memorial with the naming of the Music at Memorial Program in honor of the late Jay Craven. As a volunteer at CHi Memorial, Jay played his clarinet two to three days a week, sitting in the hallway, patient rooms, waiting rooms, and any place people needed the soothing melody of a favorite or reassuring song. He produced six CDs based on the music he played at CHi Memorial, donating proceeds to various departments at CHi Memorial.

When people view works of art that trigger positive memories or experiences, the feelings of hope and lightheartedness stimulate their immune systems. We can always do more as a team than we can do individually. This was very true when CHi Memorial foundation and first Tennessee joined together to sponsor the Westside Community Health & Wealth fair on Saturday, August 6, at CHi Memorial Community Health-Chattanooga at 1200 Grove Street. More than 300 participants enjoyed a host of activities including health screenings, credit reports and financial counseling, mobile mammography, face painting, a cookout and other fun activities.

We all have a story to tell about a physician who took the time to listen and understand our cares and concerns or a nurse who paid attention to the little things to make us comfortable. Simple gestures like these can leave a lasting impression and set the standard for great health care. Often times, our patients and their family members turn to CHi Memorial’s Caring Spirit program as a way to give back.
Thanks to contributions to the Caring Spirit program from grateful patients and family members, programs like the Rees Skillern Cancer institute at CHi Memorial, the Guerry Heart and Vascular Center, and the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center continue to provide nationally recognized patient care using state-of-the-art equipment and technology, improving health throughout our community.

“Katherine’s visits to my dad helped him maintain his health and independence for the past few years. She went above and beyond the basics of health care. She always answered our many questions, and she helped us in communicating my dad’s needs to various doctors. She was more than just a caregiver, she was a friend to him. She truly made a difference in my dad’s life.”

The CHi Memorial Auxiliary was pleased to provide funding for the 25th Annual We Care Weekend retreat for cancer patients and their families. Thanks to the support of CHi Memorial’s volunteers, 51 families took part in many activities throughout the weekend including a hayride, manicures, yoga, pontoon boat rides, hikes and more. Cohutta Springs was a perfect location to also enjoy the beauty and quiet of the surrounding mountains and lake.
