Load Banks

Load Banks are designed to provide electrical loads for testing Generator Sets and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS). Load Banks are also used to reduce “Wet Stacking” problems in Diesel Engines on Backup Generator Sets.

Load Banks are available as: Permanent Portable Radiator Mounted Reactive

Testing

Other Reasons to Test

JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations)

Acceptance of NFPA-99-1999 section 3-4.4.1.1(b) calls for the EPS to be tested a minimum 12 times per year, at intervals no less than 20

days and no more than 40 days.

All Gaseous fuel generator engines must be EPA certified. Regardless of application All Diesel fuel generator engines regardless of application, must be EPA Certified and Tier Rated as

follows: Emergency Standby Power (ESP) – All current Tier 2 and Tier 3 Diesel Generator Sets (in their

applicable horsepower categories) will be compliant through 2015 and beyond ESP installations are permitted up to 100 hours running time per year for testing and

maintenance. For applications other than (ESP), such as Load Management, Peak Shaving, Prime Power or

Mobile Rental Power – Tier 4 regulations are in effect. In order for the engine to comply with Tier 4 regulations, advancements in engine design

including Fuel Injection Systems, Fuel Timing, Electronic Controls, Advanced Turbo Charging and Exhaust After Treatment will be necessary.

Exhaust After Treatment major technologies include:

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)

Diesel Particulate Filtering (DPF)

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) These technologies can add up to 60% to the cost of the engine and will require some type of

maintenance by the customer.
