REFRESH AND RENEW PROGRESS UPDATES
Thanks to the generosity of our congregation with the ReFresh and ReNew campaign, the following projects have been completed: new interior of elevator; new oven in main kitchen; updates in walk-in cooler and freezer; new roofing on remainder of first floor. Projects coming soon include: new carpet in Narthex and Welcome Center area; remodeling of the two restrooms next to Music Suite.
The following additional projects (as well as regular maintenance items) have been completed with funds from the Capital Reserve and the Operating Budget: automated handicapped doors at The Commons and the Sanctuary Narthex entrance areas; carpet installation in Room 152; church-wide wireless internet accessibility; painting of Administrative Wing and Music Suite Wing hallways; and purchase of Media Suite equipment.
We estimate that an additional $195,935 should be received by the end of this year, based upon pledge commitments for 2015. Giving is made easy by logging onto matthewsumc.me where you can check your pledge balance,
give a one-time gift or set up automated giving. Thank you for your contributions!

YOUR TITHES + GOD’S LOVE IN ACTION = THRIVING KINGDOM AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM PROVIDES PEACE OF MIND
By Megan Drulard
As a parent you worry everyday – what are your children doing, who is watching them, are they safe, are they making good choices? It is in the forefront of our minds.
When my children were old enough to go to school I had the hard decision of where they should attend afterschool and who did I trust enough with this responsibility. I interviewed a number of afterschool providers and have never once regretted my decision to place my children in the care of The Lighthouse at Matthews United Methodist Church Afterschool Program. When we made the decision we were not members of MUMC but we knew it was the right place for our first daughter; now, 10 years later and two more daughters it is still the right place.
The women run a tight ship but are caring and show constant love and concern for my girls. I love how my girls not only have time set aside for homework but have people there who will look it over and help them. The community involvement at MUMC Afterschool teaches my kids to look beyond themselves through their monthly projects – school supply drive, writing letters to soldiers and so much more. Plus, my kids get a snack and time to run off their energy after sitting all day in class!
All that these women do allows me a peace of mind while I am at work and allows me to have quality time when I am able to pick my girls up from Afterschool. I cannot say enough about what an amazing group of God-fearing women are at the MUMC Lighthouse!
