Historic home tour feaures
The 33rd AnnualYpsilanti HeritageFoundation HistoricHome Tour will depart
from what has been done inthe past.
For onlythe secondtime, thehome touris leavingYpsilantifor part of the tour. Featured will be
seven locations, includingfour superb 19th-centuryproperties, three houses anda schoolhouse in Superior
Township.Throughout their history,
all four have had strong tiesto the city of Ypsilanti. Aperfect compliment to theseproperties is a wonder-ful 19th-century home onYpsilanti’s south side. Alsoon the tour are the nonprofitCorner Health Center on his-toric North Huron Street andthree beautifully designedmodern loft apartmentsabove the Spark East officeson Michigan Avenue.
The following proper-ties will be featured on thisyear’s tour:■ A grand 1892 brick
Queen Anne withRomanesque overtones, at113 Buffalo Street, owned byStewart Beal and KathlynMacker.
■ The recently expandedand restored nonprofitCorner Health Center in an1890s building at 47 NorthHuron Street.
■ Three modern loft apart-ments developed by Eric andKaren Maurer in the formerMack and Mack FurnitureBuilding, one of the oldeststructures in the city. Thelofts are above the SparkEast offices at 211-215 WestMichigan Avenue.
■ The 1884 Italianate Geer-Miller house, at 8605 West
Ann Arbor Road in SuperiorTownship, painstakingly andelegantly brought back tolife over the last ten years byGlenn and Jeanine Miller.
■ The 1839 classic brickEsek Pray-Van Bolt house,with prominent GreekRevival details, at 8755 WestAnn Arbor Road, steeped inhistory and one of the old-est dwellings remaining inSuperior Township. OwnersJohn and Jane Van Bolt havebeen superb stewards of thisproperty since 1987.
■ The 1837 “Upright and
Wing” McCormick-Williamsfarmhouse, at 9105 WestAnn Arbor Road in SuperiorTownship, owned by Kay andKarl Williams. A barn dat-
ing from the 1860s is on theproperty.
■ The 1880 Geer School, at9981 West Ann Arbor Roadin Superior Township. Theschool educated studentsuntil 1982. The communityrestored it in the late 1980s,and today it provides a his-tory lesson and a one-roomschool experience for fourthgraders in Plymouth-CantonCommunity Schools.
Tickets for the 2010 HomeTour are $10 in advanceand can be purchased atHaab's Restaurant and SaltCity Antiques, downtown;Nortons Flowers and Gifts,Washtenaw Avenue; NelsonAmos Studio, Depot Town;
at Saxtons Garden Center,in downtown Plymouth;Downtown Home andGarden, in Ann Ar bor.Tickets are also being sold atthe Superior Township Hall.
Tickets are available onthe day of the tour for $12in front of the YpsilantiHistorical Museum on NorthHuron Street and Haab'sRestaurant on MichiganAvenue.
