REMEMBER, THIS IS NOT AN ESSAY BUT YOUSHOULD PREPARE THE DEPTH AND DETAIL OF YOUR ANSWERS AS IF IT WERE. YOU CAN ADDTHE REFERENCES AND DETAIL TO YOUR BLOG.

THE EXAMINERS ARE LOOKING FOR DETAILEDAND THOROUGH PLANNING, RESEARCH ANDEXECUTION – YOU ARE, AFTERALL, LIKELY TOBE STUDYING FOR A DEGREE LATER THIS YEARAND THE LEVEL OF YOUR WORK SUBMITTEDSHOULD REFLECT THIS

GUIDANCE FOR CONTENT OF YOUREVALUATION  – you will get further guidance later

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challengeforms and conventions of real media products?

You must include something on: music video genre, narrative, form, style, and construction. You need to SHOW OFF all that you have learnt – you have learnt more than you realise somake sure you get credit for it!

Demonstrate some understanding of the conventions of the music video form, and usesome real MV examples to illustrate this

Show clarity of understanding in relation to how you have followed/challenged music videogenre conventions

This would usually include some discussion of

Synaesthesia

Grain of Voice

Scopophilia (notion of looking and sexual aspects thereof)

Typical characters/istics/behavior of the artist – think about PERFORMANCE and itsimportance here

Typical events that take place in MVs (such as performance or concept) – how filmedand how narrative is disrupted and discontinuous – remember that all things aregenerally disjointed and incomplete in music videos

Illustration and Amplification

Music video, lyrics and music relationship

Typical themes of MV (and your music genre)

Typical iconography - mise-en-scene, lighting, setting

Presentation of Artist – close ups, star image motifs

• Dual • Cross cutting • Flashbacks • Action and enigma codes

B. Star Image - star image as meta-narrative (i.e. their body of work and image and how itaffects/contributes)

C. Editing and Camera work – You should be able to identify the conventions of musicvideo – the patterns they usually follow and how this relates to your music video. For thisyou will need to look at both Goodwin and Vernallis as they cover this between them.Think about the following in particular

Pace of movement

Pace of editing

Fast Cutting

Montage Editing style

Post-production digital effects

Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

You should briefly describe the kind of audience you had in mind when producing your musicvideo and you may talk about fan behaviour.

You may identify them through thefollowing:

 AgeGender Nationality

Lifestyle/attitude to lifeTastes in mediaFilm consumption habitsFandom/expertise

You may also want to use the followingterms:

Broad/nicheMass audienceCore or primary

SecondaryLocal, national,& internationalDemographic

You may then draw on and develop points made previously.Notice the word YOUR feedback – use the feedback gained form the class showcases.

You would be advised to focus on:

• Pleasures (including pain!) and Uses & Gratification theory (thinking here ‘Genre

communities’ in particular) • Audience appeal/engagement/potential or actual reactions• Relevance of the ‘fan’ as opposed to a general audience for another media form – music

video is always about the STAR and so is also always about the fans

You could identify the techniques and tactics that your audience are used to and say how youhave used those to gain their attention

Techniques/tactics you may have used:

Choosing a genre popular with your audience

Conforming to expectations

Editing techniques - montage, continuity, seamless

Giving the fans what they want – their star  – think star image

ALSOCover how what you learned from your audience feedback was initially used to re-shape andmould your music video – what changes did you make? How did the feedback affect your perception and ultimately the finish of your music video?

Question 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction, and research,

planning and evaluation stages?

Think about the nature of the question!Use the correct names and terms: brand names, spellings, terms like non-linear editing, digital technology, auto-focus etcImagine you were doing the project again, or a new project or advising someone else

• What would you do differently with the benefit of hindsight? • What do you know that you didn't know before? • What advice would you pass on? • What are the advantages/disadvantages of different technology used

• What could you have done, but didn't

Focus your answer on:Use of hardware - camera, lighting, tripod, dolly, track, techniques usedUse of software - different types, techniques used

You may have something to comment on in relation to the following:o Ease of useo Health and safetyo Handling issueso Portabilityo Quality issueso Flexibilityo Scopeo e-Creative possibilities

Refer to the different stages of production to help focus your points. You are advised to focus on the following areas: The process of researching Music Video and learning about its conventions The planning process including audience issues, location, reccies, storyboarding,

permissions

The process of running a shoot, including the roles, working to a shooting script, shotorder, how much to shoot, running on the action, achieving a seamless narrative, master shots etc.

The editing process, including capturing, using a timeline, re-ordering etc The evaluation process, including different types of feedback, organising focus groups

etc – HOW DID YOU SELECT EACH MEDIUM FOR THE VARIOUS STAGES ANDELEMENTS OF YOUR EVALUATION & WHY (when you used WIX, why?)
