Spelling, Grammar and Handwriting tasks will be incorporated into Guided Reading Sessions which happen on a daily basis. Developing numerical reasoning Using number skills Using measuring skills Using geometry skills Using algebra skills Using data skills Gwyddoniaeth / Science How Do Things Work? Light Learners will discuss what they already know about light and learn how to identify primary and secondary light sources. They will learn about how light travels and why shadows are formed. They will investigate how and why shadows change size when they move relative to a light source. How Do Things Work? - Magnets Learners will discuss what they already know about magnets and magnetism and they will learn how to identify magnetic materials. They will learn what magnets can be used for and they will design an investigation to test the strength of different types of magnet. Learners will use the knowledge they have acquired to design and build a magnetic toy. Cymraeg / Welsh Learners will read a series of short texts as a class, based on the Pod Antur resources. Celf a Chreft / Art & Design

‘Celtic Patterns and Pottery’

Learners will research the many different Celtic patterns and Celtic pottery. They will experiment with different mediums to create their own Celtic patterns. Learners will move on to compare modern pottery from the work of well-known artists, such as Clarice Cliff and Lowri Davies before creating a coil pot like the Celts.

Please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s Class teacher if you would like to discuss anything in relation to your child at Ysgol Deganwy.

Cerddoriaeth / Music

Learners will be given the opportunity to develop musical skills through listening, composing and appraising. This unit of work will be based on telling a story through music. Learners will use different musical elements, to compose their own rhythmic and melodic composition. They will perform, record and evaluate their work.

Dylunio a Thechnoleg / D & T

Celtic Roundhouses‘’ Learners will research different materials available and used by the Celts when constructing their homes and looking at the methods and techniques used e.g. weaving. They will then move on to design and create a Celtic Roundhouse using some of these methods.

Addysg Gorfforol / Physical Education ‘Gymnastics’

Learners will develop the Body Schooling shapes and will be using these to create and develop their own individual / group games/motifs in order to answer a given brief, before performing and evaluating their own and each others work.

‘Invasion Games’ Netball and Football

‘Net / Court / Wall Games’ Tennis

Addysg Grefyddol / Religious Education

‘All Saints Church and the Local Community’ Learners will be given the opportunity to learn about the local parish church, All Saints Church. They will focus on the significance of the church in people’s lives and its importance to many people within the community.

TGh / ICT

ICT is incorporated into the majority of lessons in Blwyddyn 3 and Blwyddyn 4 where children use a range of ICT skills through the context of other subjects. Learners will also benefit from a series of ICT Skills Based Lessons throughout the term. Topics and skills covered will be – Cyber Safety, Using the Internet as a source of Information, Purple Mash, Animation and Graphic Editing.

Daearyddiaeth / Geography

‘Where can we go to learn about the Celts?’ Learners will be researching the locations in the UK which has evidence of the existence of the Iron Age Celts. They will identify and describe the natural and human features of these locations and provide geographical reasons as to why these locations were important to the Celts.

Hanes / History

‘What do we know about our past? ’ Learners will be studying the daily life of people living during the time of the Iron Age Celts. They will carry out investigations into the history around them and into the life of people during the Celtic period. Learners will ask and answer relevant questions about the past. They will be given opportunities to use a range of sources.

ABaCh / PSHE

Both Blwyddyn 3 and Blwyddyn 4 follow a series of PSHE lessons designed to promote positive behaviour, understanding of their own needs and the needs of others around them and how to develop a Growth Mindset. Sessions will include:
