AAP’s win has come as a shock to congressmen in the country: Prof Soz Srinagar, December 08: Taking a strong exception to the recent statement of National Conference, Jam- mu and Kashmir Awami Majlis Amal (AMA) Sunday accused NC of bartering the aspirations and wishes of people of Kashmir in lieu of power and political gains. A spokesman of AMA told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the people of Kashmir have themselves witnessed the historical events and the people here have the full knowledge of the events when NC be- trayed them at all them levels. “It was Moulana Mo- hammad Yusuf Shah who introduced Sheikh Moham- mad Abdullah to the po- litical world of the state and the history bears witness of the fact that the footsteps of Mirwaiz Yusuf Shah have always been followed by the people here at large.” The AMA spokesman stated that the recent state- ment of NC wherein it was mentioned that Moulana Mohammad Yusuf Shah embraced Sheikh in Paki- stan for the political motive is ‘absurd and politically incorrect’. “It was only be- cause Moulana Mohammad Yusuf Shah believed that Sheikh’s visit to Pakistan was aimed at resolution of Kashmir dispute but Sheikh had other plans in mind.” The spokesman further stated that the Mirwaiz fam- ily of Kashmir has always represented the aspirations of the people of Kashmir in its true perspective and that it has rendered innumerous sacrifices for the freedom of Kashmir. See Mirwaiz Family on Pg. 7 Coalition government failed to carry forward development agenda: PDP Srinagar, Dec 08: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today re- gretted that present government headed by National Confer- ence (NC) has failed to carry forward the agenda of develop- ment in the State. Addressing impres- sive public meetings at Achabal Adda, Ka- mad and Kheerbal areas of Anantnag assembly segment in connections with the ongoing campaign for Lok Sabha elections, PDP leaders pointed out that various de- velopmental projects which were started during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed have been stalled by the present dispensation without any reason. They espe- cially mentioned that project of a 300 bedded hospital at Anantnag is yet to be completed. Similarly various projects to provide civic amenities to peo- ple are also stopped mid-way. PDP leaders reminded the gather- ing that a project to construct a business mall is also yet to be started because pres- ent government was adopting discrimina- tory attitude towards this region. Calling upon the peo- ple to compare tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed with decades long mis-goverance of National Confer- ence (NC) in the state, PDP leaders said that during the PDP led re- gime various develop- mental projects were initiated in the state for the betterment and upliftment of all sec- tions of the society. “It is unfortunate that the present dispensa- tion neither carries forward the political agenda of the previous government nor fol- lows the development policies which were adopted by the PDP led regime”, they said and added that instead See PDP on Pg. 7 Srinagar, December 08: Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, the president Pradesh Congress Commit- tee and former union minister on Sunday said that Aaam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s debut win in Delhi has come as a shock for the con- gressmen in the country. Talking to KNS, Prof Soz said the election elections re- sults that have come in four states includ- ing Delhi must act as a warning for the con- gressmen in the coun- try to work doubly and get awakened to the new challenges on the ground. “This is politics and there are ups and downs but AAP’s win has come as shock for the congressmen in the country. This is surely an awakening call for all of the congress men in the country and a message has come that we have to work very hard,” Prof Soz told KNS. He, however, maintained that India is a democracy and the democratic institutions have gained strength. “Let me tell you that the BJP propaganda will not work.” Asked if the elections re- sults of the four states including Delhi, MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh will have any impact in Jammu and Kashmir, the PCC chief said: “There is no impact of Modi in Jammu and as far as the valley is con- cerned Congress has emerged as a vibrant force to reckon with.” Jammu, December 08: From noting to "never un- derestimate the newcomer" to observing that voters "will see through crude at- tempts to buy support", Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah did some loud thinking as assem- bly election results from four states poured in Sunday. As trends of the elections held in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Ra- jasthan and Delhi started trickling in, Omar Abdullah wrote on his twitter handle: "I'm glued to my TV waiting to watch the trends and results start coming in. Call it morbid curiosity." "So, it's bell weathers versus breached firewalls," he said in another reaction to the trends. Wondering at some poll- sters, who had given six seats to AAP in one of the surveys, the chief minister said, "Which was the post poll survey that gave AAP 6 seats? You need to sack your pollsters, they clearly stayed at home to fill ques- tionnaires." "Notes to self for 2014 - vot- ers will see through crude attempts to buy support with last minute populist schemes," he wrote. "Big public meet- ings don't always mean votes but poorly attended ones definitely indicate big trouble." "Notes to self for 2014 - nev- er underestimate the un- derdog/newcomer with a fresh face and message," he posted. Party sources said that the Congress may field its can- didate from either Ladakh constituency or from one of the three constituencies in the Kashmir valley. But as far as the next Assembly election is concerned the Congress may contest from at least 15 to 20 constituen- cies out of 46 in the Kashmir valley depending on the na- ture of the pre-poll alliance. According to the party sources the Congress high command has decided to entrust the entire party campaign for the Lok Sab- ha election to Ghulam Nabi Azad who has clear influ- ence on the party workers and party supporters in all the three regions. Sources said that though the Con- gress has decided I n princi- ple to repeat the sitting MPs for the two Lok Sabha seats in the Jammu region final decision was to be taken after Azad’s report and rec- ommendations. Party sources said that the plan of the Congress to concentrate on the two constituencies in the Jam- mu region only was the outcome of reports indi- cating that the three Lok Sabha constituencies were expected to witness direct contest between the NC and the PDP and that too when the two parties plan to field stalwarts including Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti..This was being done to leave the field open for the pre-Assembly poll alli- ance. Even if the scope for a pre-Assembly poll alli- ance was bleak the plan to leave the three Lok Sabha constituencies for the NC and the PDP to measure muscles could increase the possibility of opening post poll between the Congress and with either the NC or with the PDP. Till date the Congress lead- ers from the state have been pleading with the party high command that the Congress should keep the issue of alliance open till the end of the Assembly poll. New Delhi, December 08: In elections seen as a "semi-final" before the 2014 Lok Sabha battle, the BJP retained Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and ousted the Congress in Rajasthan. The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) stunning show in Delhi pushed the Congress to a humiliating third spot, with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party with 31 seats. AAP got 28 seats while the Congress was reduced to 8. A humbled Congress, which had pit- ted its vice-president Rahul Gandhi against the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the hec- tic election campaign, said it would "introspect" why it lost Rajasthan, was crushed in Delhi and why it couldn't dislodge the BJP in Madhya Pradesh. "Our congratulations to those who have won in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan," said a despondent Con- gress leader Jayanthi Natarajan. "In Delhi, we accept the verdict and will examine the results. We will find out what has gone wrong." "Our work is cut out for us and we have to face realities," said Congress minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was projected as a possible chief minister candidate for Madhya Pradesh which the party lost badly. The BJP said the verdict dominantly reflected "mass anger" against the Congress, which has ruled India since 2004 at the head of a multiparty United Progressive Alliance. "This is an anti-Congress vote. There is an impact of Modi also," said spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, referring to the party's prime minis- terial candidate who campaigned in all four states with gusto. BJP activists erupted into celebra- tions all across Madhya Pradesh, which the party has ruled since 2003, and Rajasthan, where the Congress suffered a disastrous defeat. However, the Congress put up a spir- ited show in Chhattisgarh where it appeared at one stage to be edging past the Raman Singh-led BJP after being in the opposition for a decade. The Congress was decimated in Ra- jasthan, and could be left with only 31 seats in the 200-member house. Officials counting votes in the state said the BJP won 162 seats out of 199. The Churu assembly seat was coun- termanded because of the death of a candidate. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP won 156 seats while leading in another 9 out of the 230 constituencies. The most stunning verdict came from Delhi where Sheila Dikshit, chief minister for 15 long years, re- signed after leading the party to a rout, and she herself was set to lose humiliatingly to AAP founder lead- er Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi constituency, which she considered her pocket borough.
