Social events could put you into touch with intriguing new people who share your interests. This should be a grati-fying experience. Your mind is quick and agile and your cu-riosity high, so you’ll gain a lot from conversations. Perhaps you’ll even make plans to attend lectures or workshops with your new acquaintances so you can learn more about what interests you all.

Your thoughts and feelings may be vague today, and you could be preoccupied. People might talk to you but you won’t hear much of what they say, and you’ll remember even less. This is a temporary condition. Don’t worry that people think you’re rude. The ones that count know you’re not. Spend the day reading escapist novels. It won’t matter if you can’t re-member those!

Romantic matters should be going very well now, al-though today you might have some doubts. Your loved one may be quiet and preoccupied. Don’t let your insecurities get the better of you! What’s probably going on with your friend has little if anything to do with you and more to do with money matters. Your partner will tell you when the time is right.

Flowers and fresh plants can perk up your mood as well as your home. You may feel your abode is looking a bit shab-by. Simple tricks to improve its appearance will do wonders for your outlook. Go to a kitchen store and splurge on a few new items. Put a pot of herbs in a window. You’ll be amazed at the change in your mood and in the room!

Today the paranormal could be on your mind. Books on related subjects may capture your interest, so you’ll probably want to spend the day reading. Some of the concepts might seem strange even to you, but don’t write them off yet. The important thing now is to keep an open mind. Strange things are discovered every day.

A strong bond of loyalty that you feel for a friend might propel you into a touchy situation today. Your friend may ask you to do a favor that’s difficult if not impossible. Look into the situation and see if there’s some way you can help. If not, you’ll have to try to make it up later. Sometimes that’s all you can do.

Creative ideas may elude you today. You may have a han-kering to do something artistic but with only a few vague notions, and you may not like those. This is a good day to work with others’ ideas. Read, play music by a great com-poser, copy a painting by a master. This way you’ll keep the impulses going without trying to force new ideas that won’t come.

Your mind could be especially active today. Perhaps you’ll discover a new talent you didn’t know you had, such as writ-ing, drawing or speaking. Ideas for stories, sketches, or lec-tures might come thick and fast. Write them down. Comput-ers are particularly useful now. You might have to execute some paperwork concerning money, but this should get ac-complished quickly and easily.

Some bizarre dreams or visions could come to you today. Don’t put too much stock in them. You might find that the images are partly scenes from your past, partly information you’ve received lately, and partly your own fears about the future. If you view them this way, you should be able to see what they’re telling you. They aren’t prophesies for the fu-ture.

Your mind should be especially quick and agile today, and your curiosity will be piqued. Your pursuit of intellectual interests could lead to group activities where you meet others interested in the same subjects. A lot of informa-tion could come your way. You’ll enjoy discussing it. New friendships and lines to other possible interests could come your way.

You might have a few projects in mind that you’ll want to work on today. Your mind is especially quick and agile, and you have a lot of great ideas that can make your ef-forts turn out the way you want. Conversations with those close to you may provide even more possibilities. Whatever you choose to work on, you should be pleased with the results.

It may be difficult to focus on household chores today. Your mind is on more exalted matters, such as spiritual and intellectual interests and you feel lazy. It’s OK to do nothing. You don’t have to knock yourself out every day! Relax at home, read, watch TV, and cook if you must do something. Your chores can wait until you feel more en-ergetic.

New Delhi, November 29:

Welcoming the prospects of pri-vate financial and technological in-vestment in establishing network of cold chain infrastructure, refrigerat-ed transportation and post-harvest management, in Jammu and Kash-mir, the Minister for Agriculture Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir, on Friday said that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, as a matter of policy, is con-sidering involving private players in the Agriculture sector.

Speaking in the inaugural ses-sion of the 2-day International Conference-cum-Exhibition “India FARM 2 FORK” organised by Prog-ress Harmony Development (PHD), Chamber of Commerce and Indus-try, New Delhi, the State Agriculture Minister presented the vision of J&K State in the area of Agriculture and Food sector.

The Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir has a vast resource base for production of different kinds of food items from Agricul-ture, Horticulture, Sheep and Animal Husbandry sectors. He said inspite of varied agriculture products hav-

ing huge market potential, the state suffers from transportation con-straints particularly in mountain-ous and inaccessible areas, absence of organized collection centres and storage facilities.

Mr. Mir said due to high cost of transportation and higher toll du-ties, the farmers of the State find it difficult to sustain competition with farmers of plains in other states. Therefore, the State is promoting formation of agri-producer orga-nizations to provide appropriate assistance in developing collection centers, improved storage facilities and transportation which are pre-requisite for growth of this sector.

The Minister said Government of the State, as a matter of policy, is considering involving private play-ers for interventions in establish-ment of Agri-based Skill Develop-ment and Training Institutions to broad base and harness genuinely fair amount of profits in agricul-ture sector.

Mr. Mir said that Jammu and Kashmir Government would like to support private investors to venture into the areas such as seed produc-

tion of crops, vegetables; fabrica-tion of machinery and equipment suited for agri-production, post-harvest management and market-ing, providing sale and services in developing micro-irrigation facili-ties; developing and installation of Protected Cultivation structures for high value vegetables, flowers, and other crops. He said J&K State espe-cially the Kashmir valley abounds in surplus Apple production and at the same time it faces the problem of extensive post-harvest losses due to rotage. Various attempts have been made to come to the rescue of fruit growers through intervention in post-harvest management and mar-keting but a lot needs to be done by way of establishment of network of cold chain infrastructure and value addition. Investment from private sector in this regard is desired, he added.

The Minister said that the farm-ing population of the State especially the habitats of Milk producers are located in far off and mountainous areas where transportation is diffi-cult and time consuming. This often results in product deterioration and

diminished returns to farmers/milk producers. Participation of Private players in refrigerated transporta-tion of milk and milk products shall be of immense help to the milk pro-ducers.

He said in the fishing sector, en-hancement of lake and reservoir fish stocks will require continuous hatchery production as stocking material, especially the indigenous Mahseers and Schizothoracines. Some of the water bodies also need to be selected as fish sanctuaries. The role of private participation in this sector and their post-harvest management also needs serious consideration.

The Minister said that State Gov-ernment is implementing various Centrally Sponsored Schemes and would like to avail adequate as-sistance under “National Mission on Food Processing” which ad-dresses most of the issues related to employment generation and skill development. It provides for institutionalizing Food Processing Mission at the State level and the District Level, as it has the provi-sion for the Scheme of Mega Food

Parks; the Scheme for food safety, codex and R&D to give the sector a competitive edge and Scheme for Human Resource Development.

The Agriculture Minister said that emancipation of agriculture sector lies in productivity en-hancement through adoption of improved farm practices and di-versification in the rural non-farm sector. Awareness and populariza-tion of modern farm practices like high quality inputs, mechanization, promoting water use efficiency in irrigation, sustainability through organic farming, integrated pest and nutrient management, besides other post-harvest Management and market linkages is to be the focus area.

The Minister said that it is hoped that the population engaged in Agriculture which continues to contribute significantly to Gross Domestic Product shall look for-ward through the window of India FARM 2 FORK International Confer-ence Cum Exhibition for enhanced productivity and enhanced ave-nues for virtual employment in the agriculture sector.

Srinagar, November 29:

In order to address the genuine com-plaints of students and parents regarding exploitations by various coaching centres of valley, a special Squad of senior officers of Directorate of School Education Kashmir on the instructions of Director School Educa-tion Kashmir Mir Tariq Ali carried surprise inspection of some coaching centres lo-cated in uptown area of Srinagar city. The team interviewed the students just outside the coaching centres to get an on the spot feedback about the quality of education and various facilities available in these centres.

The team later inspected the coaching centres to cross check the arrangements as claimed by the management of the cen-tres through their advertisements in lo-cal print and electronic media. The team came to know that the coaching centres are charging @ Rs. 20,000 to 25,000 from students of 11thand 12th class for coach-ing of three subjects. The team took serious notice of some coaching centres who had

+200 students in one single room. In one of the coaching centres run under the title of VIPs, the team found that the teacher was seen using microphone for teaching a large group of students. In most of the coaching centres, the inspection team found that there was no proper heating arrangement and the students despite having paid huge sums were found shivering with cold in early morning hours. Some coaching Cen-tres are functioning normally under rules.

This is pertinent to mention here that the Coaching Centres were provisionally registered by Director School Education Kashmir and in most cases registration has already expired on April 30, 2013. The team has recommended closure of such coaching centres which also were found violating the norms and exploiting the students just for the lust of money. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand has taken strong note of the ex-ploitative and shady business run by these so called coaching centres and advised the competent authority to go strictly by the standing norms.
