What he thinks / Qué piensaHe is outgoing and he’s always ready to make new friends. He is ratheregocentric and tends to show off. He likes to party and to have fun. He has agood level of general culture and he loves wine and typical Argentinean food.
What he says / Qué diceHe talks with dirty words even though he doesn’t apply them literally. He also uses several local idioms as: “Che, boludo” or “Dejate dejoder”. He is quite monothematic: he’s always talking about soccer, women and he’s continuously insulting politicians. Sex is a VERYcommon subject in his speech, and treats it in a detailed way, in anymoment and place. The Argentinean expresses himself talking loudlyand trying to impose his voice over the others´.
What he feels / Qué sienteHe tends not to express his feelings hiding them under the “macho”image. But when he shows them, he can be very extrovert. He falls inlove easily and he likes to have a girlfriend. He is very passionate withhis loved ones and that’s why he is so jealous. He craves for his soccerteam and for his idols. His friends and family are two sacred values.
What he eats / Qué come
He loves asado. Meat and wine are the ideal combo of thetypical Argentinean. Pizza and empanadas are also part ofhis weekly menu. He frequently eats out in restaurants andwhen he doesn’t do it, he gets food by delivery. He enjoysmate in anytime and anywhere.

If you go dancing, the ticket tends to be cheaper if you
get there before 2.30AM. Otherwise, the price may
be double. If you are a woman, you usually don’t pay
the entrance or you pay less than men. So, if you are a
man just get your wig ready.

There are lots of national and provincial routes spread throughout the country. Long distance buses are fast and comfortable. There are three different services differing in the number of stops and type of seats. They are called Regular, Semi-cama (semi-bed), and Cama (bed). If you have a long journey the best is Cama (bed) as the seat is similar to an airline’s first class.

Luciano Pereyra is an Argentinean singer, born in 1981 in the town of Lujan. He began playing music when he was three, when his parents gave him his first guitar for Christmas. The following year he began to participate in childrens’ television programs, and in 1998 he recorded his first album called “Amaneciendo”. He created a musical style that blended sounds of samba, carnavalito, waltzes, chacareras and ballads.A few years later he recorded other seven albums, and he achieved successful moments as when he sang the song “Solo le Pido a Dios” for the Pope John Paul II at the Vatican, representing Latin America in the jubilee, or when he was chosen to sing the Argentinean National Anthem during the tribute match to Diego Maradona. “Volverte a Ver” is his last album, where he returns to the roots of his music.

ESQUINA CARLOS GARDEL
This historic site of the city is located on the corner of the street named Carlos Gardel and Anchorena Street, where it is today located the statue that immortalizes the singer. There was the restaurant “Chanta Cuatro” which sheltered the colorful charac-ters of the area. This corner was a silent witness of the stories of to Carlitos Gardel, where he used to get together with friends for dinner, singing and talking until sunrise.Today, more than 100 years later, this story comes back to life. “Esquina Carlos Gardel”, located exactly on the same corner where “Chanta Cuatro” used to be, is a great tango theme restaurant.

The crossroads of San Juan and Boedo streets is a historical and traditional corner of Buenos Aires. The bar, which was built in 1927 and became a symbol of the urban culture of the 40’s, hosted many of the popular musi-cians who turned tango into the foremost artistic expression of Buenos Aires. The corner of San Juan and Boedo recreates the atmosphere of the “arrabal porteño”, the cobbled streets and tango.Today, after the place was recycled by the architect Carlos Liuzzi, the building is again a meeting place and a center of cultural interest, which preserves the original facade and the construction design of the time when it was first built.

Located in the historical neighborhood of San Telmo, El Viejo Almacén was already there even before the birth of tango. Time has gone by, tango has become popular, the city has been modernized but the name of El Viejo Almacén has become well-known around the world. Its history starts when Edmundo Rivero, a singer with deep voice and refined performance, turns the old store in Balcarce and Independencia streets into a Tango temple. In the half-light, in the old colonial style mansion, the best tango expressions were shown. Anibal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Goyeneche and Horacio Salgan per-formed on the stage of “The Viejo Almacén”. Due to its historical importance for Buenos Aires the place was declared “Place of Cultural Interest” by the Honorable Deliberating Council of the City of Buenos Aires.

CAFÉ DE LOS ANGELITOS This mythical coffee was inaugurated in 1890 under the name of “Bar Rivadavia”. With rudimentary facilities and a dirt floor, the place was a scenario for the verbal duels of gaucho minstrels. At the beginning of the 20th century, due to the proximity to the National Congress, the place was witness of the political arguments of important figures such as Hipólito Irigoyen, José Ingenieros and Alfredo Palacios. In 1920, the place was purchased by Ángel Salgueiro and it was renamed with its current name. In 1944, the tango song “Café de los Angelitos” was written, which turned this place into the first coffee of the city which had a tango with its own name. Many years later the place was declared Outstanding Coffee House, Place of Cultural Inter-est of the City of Buenos Aires.

LA ESQUINA DE ANÍBAL TROILO
It is a historic corner with tango “flavor”, with the atmos-phere of the famous Gordo Pichuco, Aníbal Troilo. In the old days this was Bar del Carmen, but the unconditional presence of the Argentinean artist, who every evening came here to take his Scotch, led the neighbors to declare this bar as “La Esquina de Anibal Troilo”.In 1975, after the death of the tango player, the Deliberat-ing Council of Buenos Aires, declared this place as a His-torical Monument. Today it looks renovated but without losing its essence. Its visitors, generally young students and tourists, find in this corner a great place to eat or drink coffee while they listen to the music they choose.

What is it? / ¿Qué es?Argentinean folklore music is the greatest and most genuine popular expression of the country. It has a great variety of rhythms, bells and lyrics related directly to its place of origin. The regions of the country, with diverse weather and geographical features, reflect different styles, each one with individualities, though they are permeable to the influences of the bordering regions.Folklore extends not only to music but also to music instruments, ceremonies and typical dances. The songs express aspects of a way of life that either existed in the past or is about to disappear, with the aim of preserv-ing them. Nowadays, it is the individual authors the ones who attribute their personality and traditions of the place where they live, whereas in the past, the composers would work in group.

Directed by Carlos Sorin and released in 2002, “Historias Mínimas” is a movie that was shot in Patagonia, in the province of Santa Cruz. There, several characters travel the roads of the south of Argentina: Don Justo is a retired man who receives news about the appearance of his dog, Roberto is a trader who has a gift to celebrate his little son’s birthday; and Maria Flores is a poor woman who has just received a message to participate in a television show.Starring Javier Lombardo, Antonio Benedictis and Javiera Bravo, this film tells a story about
little things, the simple details of life, in a context of immensity like there is the Argentinean Patagonia.

After several historical films in the Argentinean cinema, Carlos Sorin released in 2011 his last work: “El Gato Desaparece”. With two brilliant performances, Luis Luque and Beatriz Spelzini are the main characters of this story, in where they play two characters who have the same names as the artists. The film begins when Beatriz goes to find Louis, her husband, to a neuropsychiatry clinic where he has been hospitalized after an unexpected and violent psychotic episode. The Argentinean director builds a thriller where the happiness of recovering a couple of 25 years coexists with the intrigue of knowing if Luis will be the same as he was before his illness. Sorin seduces with light, colors and a camera that follows the characters, to ensure that nothing that happens is what it seems.

2003. Duhalde llama a elecciones.
