Cambridge Harmony

http://impact.orpheusweb.co.uk/CambridgeHarmony/index.html

The chorus originally known as Camtown Ladies came into being in May 1982, under the direction of Betty Alyson with a grand total of four members.

By the following July membership had increased to ten, but during the summer break half of that number moved away. A recruiting drive was undertaken by the remaining members, and by September of that year there were 12 members.

Now called Cambridge Harmony, many ladies have since come and gone, but numbers are now 30 and we are currently recruiting again for new members to swell this number.

We became members of Sweet Adelines International, a non-profit, world-wide organization of women singers, committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.

Our Chorus chartered in 2000 and have since participated in the Quartet of Nations Regional competitions held every year at venues in the UK.

We also have other singing engagements throughout the year at private and public functions. The money we receive from these engagements help towards our costumes and other expenses incurred.

Our standing goals are to bring in new members, create more opportunities to perform, and bring our love of four-part a capella music to the community.

Tottenham Community Choir (non-denominational) is a friendly, welcoming and inclusive amateur choir that meets every Tuesday evening to sing, socialise, and (perhaps most importantly) have fun in the process. We do one or two major performances every year, plus a dozen or so smaller appearances at local events.

We offer real opportunities to make friends and sing together and, by encouraging our members to help out in the running of the choir and choosing our repertoire, we aim to create a sound that is both varied and cohesive, and that reflects the diversity of our local community. Nick Williamson, the Musical Director Nick is a long-time resident of Haringey, and has been our MD for over a year. Since leaving Middlesex University, where he studied on the BA Performing Arts programme, Nick has worked full-time as a professional musician. Nick has worked extensively in the West End and on tour including the national tours of Annie, High School Musical, Chess, Beauty & The Beast, 42nd Street, and Jesus Christ Superstar. London's West End has experienced Nick's skills on shows as diverse as Wicked, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, Billy Elliot, Grease, & Fame. Nick has also spent many hours on the cabaret scene, gracing the pianos of some of the most existential venues the capital has to offer. He has had contact with a large majority of the most important dance companies and organisations in the UK in his role as a specialist pianist for dance. Those having the pleasure of his input include The Richard Alston Dance Company, Michael Clarke Company, English National Ballet, Laban, London Contemporary Dance School, AMP, Royal Academy Of Dance, Central School Of Ballet, & Northern Ballet Theatre. For many years Nick worked as pianist & assistant to the late, great singing teacher Ian Adam. This brought him untold pleasure as he enjoyed work with such luminaries as Helena Bonham Carter in preparation for her role as Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd; Courtney Love for appearances on Later With Jools Holland and at the Kentish Town Forum; Alicia Silverston & Adrian Lester for Kenneth Branagh's Love's Labours Lost; Jeremy Irons for his appearance singing Noel Coward at the Last Night Of The Proms, Michael Crawford for appearances on Broadway and in the West End; and Anthony Andrews for his stunning performance as Henry Higgins in the Drury Lane production of My Fair Lady. Nick has also spent much time working with various departments of learning and education. He was a guest lecturer at his alma mater, Middlesex University, on the performing arts course; as well as musical director for its International MA directing course when opera and musical theatre modules arose. He has taught singing to all ages and abilities, and played on and run many education projects and schemes. He is comfortable playing jazz, classical, rock, pop, & gospel: An epic sight-reader as well as a fluent improviser
