NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Block Release)

This is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK. In a recent survey of successful students, conducted by NEBOSH, over 97% of respondents would recommend the qualification to others.

This course is suitable for: Managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organizations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues. The certificate helps them manage risks effectively. Many people take the NEBOSH NGC as a first step in a career in health and safety. It provides a valuable overview and is a sound basis for further professional study. Prospective candidates may be asked to engage in a short telephone interview with the lead tutor before enrolment is completed.

What does the qualification cover? The NEBOSH NGC covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. Although previous health and safety knowledge or experience is not a pre–requisite, candidates should note that assessment includes a requirement to produce a written report as well as sitting the written examinations. The qualification is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately: • Management of health and safety (NGC1) • Controlling workplace hazards (GC2) • Health and safety practical application (GC3)

How is it assessed? Units NGC1 and GC2 are taught units each assessed by a two-hour written examination. Each written examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. All questions are mandatory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. Unit GC3 is assessed by a two-hour practical project type examination carried out in the candidate’s own workplace. It is externally moderated by NEBOSH.

The next course commences in August 2018 at our Stroud campus. Attendance will be required for two blocks of one week each, with a week’s break between each block. In addition, two further days attendance for revision and written examinations.

The current cost of this course is £1,250.00 (may be subject to change). This fee includes tuition, materials, NEBOSH registration, exams and certification. There is ample parking at the Stroud campus and light refreshments will be provided.
