ANNE FAITH NICHOLLS
Much more than a passion, graphics run through the blood of
ANDREA ROSSO and shape the essence of 55DSL, especially
with the inspiration from artists all over the globe. 10.55 is a
limited edition project in collaboration with a selection of
highly acclaimed, international artists. 55DSL has torn away
any restrictions or guidelines to let the artists’ personalities
shine through by designing their own T-shirt. Customised
with graphics or a photograph, it’s completely down to the col-
laborator. And now it’s time for Andrea to swing the spotlight
on the Spring/Summer 2011 – 10.55 artist’s for an exclusive
Q+A session. The following pics have been taken around the
world where our 55DSL stores are located.
Spiderman or Superman? or…
your favourite cartoon?
I usually watched Bob Ross or Peewees
Playhouse instead of cartoons, by if I must
choose, Heman and Shera, hands down.
Your favourite subject to draw?
My dreams
What is your favourite animal and why?
Birds for their freedom, dogs for their loyalty
and horses for their beauty. Really I am a
lover of all animals… except for the horseshoe
crab, which really gives me the creeps.
What color matches your personality?
Poppy red
Internet, good or bad, why?
Good and life-changing for its research
capabilities. Bad for its Facebook stalking
capabilities.
The dream you never wish to forget:
To have a big beautiful horse and gallop
freely across my own land somewhere
on the California coast as the sun rises.
Hong Kong

Spiderman or Superman? or…
your favourite cartoon?
Your favourite subject to draw?
What is your favourite animal and why?
What colour matches your personality?
Internet, good or bad, why?
The dream you never wish to forget:
CARLOS A. ETCHEVERRY CHRISTOPHER HEWITT
Spiderman or Superman? or…
your favourite cartoon?
I always preferred the way they treated
Superman in comics, his fortress of
solitude could be the world’s trippiest
museum, with all those space monsters
and rare science objects he collected
on his free time. Also I loved the fact
that DC comics would always release
alternative stories from the Superman
universe, sometimes Superman would
be a married man, other stories would
feature a Russian Superman, Republican
puppet Superman, Jimmy Olsen steals
Superman powers, things like that. And
still nowadays there are amazing writers
working on great Superman stories, the
most flexible of all DC Characters.
My favourite Cartoon ?
That’s kind of difficult but I will name
three: Mazinger Z, Space Agent Cobra
and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
What is your favourite animal and why?
Anything that comes from hell or an
unknown hidden dimension is pretty
fun to draw.
What color matches your personality?
Well, my favourite animal to have around
is the horse, and I’ve drawn a lot of horses
in my life, but I have to say that the wolf
has always had a place in my heart,
there’s something very mystic about it,
I have had my encounter and we have
treated each other like brothers, I found
only beauty when i met the first wolf.
Internet, good or bad, why?
That’s a difficult question but I guess I
have to say that most of the time I feel like
green. Being able to contact and interact
with people from all over the world in a
dynamic way has got to be a great thing;
internet is a good thing pretty much.
The dream you never wish to forget:
I had a short dream recently in which me
and my girlfriend where by a river that
looked like somewhere in the Amazons,
we were looking at the trees and a huge
phoenix bird came out flying from the
trees, out towards the river and into the
trees again, he posed on a big branch for a
bit and then he disappeared, it was a very
colourful giant bird with neon colour
feathers, it felt very positive and I wish to
remember that little moment forever.

JANEE MEADOWS JOHN SCHUH
Spiderman or Superman? or…
your favourite cartoon?
Between Spiderman or Superman,
I have to go with Superman. His pow-
ers way surpass Spidey’s. Plus, I hate
spiders!
Your favourite subject to draw?
I love drawing people. I find they’re
the most unforgiving and rewarding
subject to draw. You know instantly
if you’re successful or not; all it takes
is one eye a little higher than the other
and the whole drawing is off. But, when
you get it right, it’s so worth it. I’ve also
been getting into drawing outer-space
and planetary escapes. That’s the con-
spiracy nerd in me coming out.
What is your favourite animal and
why?
Dog. They’re “man’s best friend” of
course.
What colour matches your personality?
Vibrant orange…
Internet, good or bad, why?
The Internet in and of itself isn’t bad. It’s
like money, in that it’s the love of money
is the root of all evil - not the actual
paper money itself. It all depends how
it’s used by the individual. There are
those who fear the freedom of informa-
tion that the internet allows the masses.
They wish to control it, because truth is
spreading like a brush fire. With the help
of Google you see censorship happen-
ing in places like China and Australia,
and America is headed in the same
direction. For years the elite have been
setting up what is known as “Internet 2”.
Then we have the lovely Cybersecurity
Act which gives the president the ability
to “declare a cybersecurity emergency”
and shut down or limit Internet traffic
in any “critical” information network “in
the interest of national security.” The bill
does not define a critical information
network or a cybersecurity emergency.
That definition would be left to the
president. Google it while you can.
The dream you never wish to forget:
I never wish to forget the dream of
preserving liberty and freedom.
Spiderman or Superman? or…
your favourite cartoon?
Spiderman, Speed Racer, and Samurai
Jack.
Your favourite subject to draw?
When I was a kid, I liked to draw
umbrellas. Maybe because I would
someday live in rainy Seattle.
What is your favourite animal and why?
The Stellar’s Jay, because they are beau-
tiful and I see them in my garden.
What colour matches your personality?
Green, because it’s peaceful.
Internet, good or bad, why?
Good, because it keeps me connected
to 55DSL!
The dream you never wish to forget:
I’m standing with my father in the
driveway of my childhood home, with
fireworks in the sky.
New YorkOsaka
34 35 .
LEIF PODHAJSKY ROCIO MATEOS
Spiderman or Superman? or…
your favourite cartoon?
I don’t believe in super heroes, my
favourite characters are from Peter
Bagge’s stories “Buddy Bradley” (Hate
Comics) and from Matt Groening’s tv
series “Nibbler” (Futurama).
Your favourite subject to draw?
Flowers, animals and surrealist
compositions.
What is your favourite animal and
why?
Like The Cure song… Love cats! They
are fun, clever, independent, clean,
soft, cute and small and only require
attention and cuddles sometimes.
What colour matches your personality?
All the colors, depends on the moment.
Internet, good or bad, why?
GOOD: Easy access to information/
education, without economic,
geographic and circumstantial
barriers. It’s an easy way to keep in
contact with your people when there
is distance involved and to meet new
ones worldwide.
BAD: Some people become dependent
to Internet since it becomes their only
means of socialization. I believe that
the social phenomenon networking
can be pretty dangerous… By that
I mean that sometimes the people are
not selective with the information, not
everything online is true…
The dream you never wish to forget:
Usually I don’t remember my dreams.
But he first one that comes in my mind
is one which I had when I was a child.
I could fly! I only needed to move as I
was swimming in the sea and it could
only happen by night while everyone
was sleeping. Although is a very
typical dream, but I can still remember
the sensation that I had as if it was only
yesterday!
Spiderman or Superman? or…
your favourite cartoon?
Neither, the super hero’s more like Gandalf
for me. My favourite cartoon: Mysterious
Cities of Gold
Your favourite subject to draw?
Nature
What is your favourite animal and why?
I don’t really have a favourite, I like them
all. I like dragons, they exist, right?
What colour matches your personality?
Forest Green
Internet, good or bad, why?
Good and bad. I think if used in the right
way it is a powerful communication tool
for the mass distribution of free informa-
tion. Which is key in educating and
hopefully facilitating a shift in awareness
in many areas of human’s existence. Keep-
ing it free and open is paramount. I think
governments slowly blacklisting sites goes
against democratic rights and freedom
of information which is a bad sign.
The dream you never wish to forget:
I had this dream once that the world
wasn’t so fucked up, and everything and
everyone existed in complete harmony,
where we as humans gained a higher state
of awareness and transcended into pure
energy… trying to keep hold of this one.

STEFANO BERTONCELLO COLLANEGA
HOW TODRESS FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE
What’s your favourite cartoon?
I like all types of animation; I don’t really have a
favourite. I watch very little television. But from
what I can remember, I liked the Pink Panther
a lot.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Everything I draw takes on my signature lines:
people, landscapes, animals, etc. I recently did
20 rooster paintings that measure roughly
5 x 5 centimetres.
What’s your favourite animal and why?
Dogs, for sure. They’re family-oriented animals
that never fail to amaze me, for many reasons,
but especially because they are so loyal. Dogs
are always a point of reference for me.
Which colour best represents your personality?
Blue, red, white, azure, orange, green.
Internet: good or bad?
The internet is good if it’s used for good.
Is there one dream that you never want to
forget?
Dreams can’t be forgotten, despite how much
you may want to bury them. They live and let
live.

At 55DSL we use our basic instincts to sniff out a good collabora-
tion and when we heard that those good folk at MTV were on the
same wavelength we decided to hatch a plan. Together we’ve
launched a special project that we’re sure will be to your taste. Six
different artists have created six bespoke T-shirts – and we have
the feeling that they will touch you in a special way. Each T-shirt
represents one of the five senses — touch, sight, sound, smell, taste
— and the last will stand for 55DSL’s special 5.5th sense, an as yet
unexplored streetwear experience. Together with MTV we ap-
proached six international artists - Alex Trochut (touch), ilovedust
(sight), James Roper (sound), Tei (smell), Yué Wu (taste) and Zeloot
(5.5th sense-intuition) – and asked them to represent a sense via
their own artistic technique and tongue-in-cheek wit. Each T-shirt
will be created using an innovative method and will feature a one-
of-a-kind graphic. As an extra twist MTV teams up the artists with
motion design studios – including Universal Everything, Physalia
and Digital District –to create innovative short films that will play
out across MTV’s 63 international channels around the world–
each informed by one of the senses and the original artworks
created for each T-shirt.

55DSL X ADIDAS ORIGINALS
experienceenHancerDevice ii
Ring the bell for round two of 55DSL x adidas Originals as
we present Experience Enhancer Device II. A 1980s adidas
Originals jacket, created in honour of cinema’s most famous
boxer, served as an inspirational jab for 55DSL to create
J-ADIDAS55. A signature 55DSL light jacket style acts as the
canvas on which every element of the original model has
been reproduced with precision, right down to the photo
transfer logo detail, and punched up with printed patches
that celebrate our Italian roots. In a classic one-two combo,
three commemorative T-shirts inspired by the J-ADIDAS55
jacket are also available. T1-ADIDAS55 celebrates 55DSL’s
cultural roots and shows the knock ‘em sock ‘em power
of Italians, while T2 pays homage to our boxing champion,
and T3 knocks them out cold with the force of a heavy-
weight champ. The J-ADIDAS55jacket and T-shirts will be
available in 55DSL boutiques and select stores worldwide
starting MAY 2011.

55DSL x MANHATTAN PORTAGE
55DSL and Manhattan Portage have collaborated to create a
special limited edition bag called the EUROPA 55; a combi-
nation of 55DSL’s creativity with the iconic red label from
New York City. The originality of 55DSL and technical exper-
tise of legendary manufacturer Manhattan Portage makes
this urban messenger bag the ultimate collector’s item. A
limited number of 1,000 bags have been released worldwide
and will be available at 55DSL and Manhattan Portage stores
and selected retailers.
55DSL x ZOUND INDUSTRIES HEADPHONES
Pump up the volume and listen to this: it’s 55DSL’s latest rockin’
collaboration! The Italian street brand has partnered with
Zound Industries to create some kick ass 55DSL headphones.
If it’s at all possible, your music just got cooler. In signature blue
and red colours and stamped with the brand’s angel logo, the
headphones stand as a symbol of 55DSL’s musical DNA. 55DSL
embraces life’s energy, irony and vibe, and transforms them into
ultra cool stuff to be worn, heard and experienced. The head-
phones are available for purchase in 55DSL stores worldwide.

SHELL SUIT ZOMBIEI’m Jonny Burch, a London-based designer and founder of
ShellsuitZombie.
Where do you get your style inspiration from?
I like baggy jeans and classic kicks set off with a great printed
tee (very much like 55DSL) - a keen interest in illustration and
design probably influence that as well as a reaction against
the hipster dress code of the area I live and work in. Big hats
and scarves are fun too.
SUCKER 4 CLOTHESHey, my name is Oliver and I am 23 years old. I am a blogger
and designer from Aachen (Germany). Besides my studies,
I run a couple of projects and my fashion blog ‘Sucker4Clothes’
is one of them.
Tell us about your worst fashion moment…
Oh well, I think my worst fashion moment was like six to seven
years ago. When I was rocking that xx-large white tees, baggy
pants and fake jewellery… lol. But to be honest don’t blame me
for that because everybody was wearing it and I was still the
freshest of them all at that time. Thank God for skinny jeans
and shirts that fit.
DATA TRANSMISSIONHi, I’m Grahame Farmer, I run a website called data transmis-
sion (www.datatransmission.co.uk) . DT is an Online Dance
music magazine which we update daily and cover all aspects
of electronic music.
Which band/artist should everyone be listening to in 2011?
A couple for me really Mighty Mouse, Drums of Death, Mid-
night Magic, Djedjotronic, Retro/Grade, the new Justice album
and away from dance music Pulp re-forming!
GIRLY&GEEKYMy name is Fleur van Sambeeck, 15 years old, born on the
beautiful Caribbean island Curaçao, Dutch nationality and living
in Belgium. Having a blog combines my three skills: writing,
entrepreneurship and my sense of fashion.
What really turns you on?
Strolling around in vintage shops, finding that heavenly perfect
item, checking the size… and discovering that it’s the right one!
It gives me such a rush to score a rare designer item for a song.
EXPRESSIVE FRONTIER LIFESTYLEI’m a creative consultant for Endless Opportunity consulting
based in Washington DC.
Where do you get your style inspiration from?
I’ve lived in DC, NY and LA for extended periods of time with DC
being the longest. Much inspiration in clothing comes from my
surroundings.
POLKADOT Hey I’m Angelo, one of the 2 founders of the online magazine
Polkadot ( www.polkadot.it).
What is your all time favourite item of clothing?
A checked shirt. or the classic T-shirt. Let’s say a checked shirt
over a T-shirt.

Friends from childhood and sharing the same passion for
street art and urban culture, Alex Fakso and 55DSL creative
director , Andrea Rosso have been brought together again
with this new project. Alex Fakso, a prominent presence in the
contemporary street scene, got involved with photography at
the age of thirteen when he aquired a camera to capture his
own pieces on trains. Since then, Fakso has never stopped
rubbing shoulders with the underworld, being part of the
graffiti movement since the early 90’s and at the same time
becoming its narrative voice. Fast or Die is Alex Fakso’s new
photographic project, which comes to life after five years of
travelling around the world, from London to the US, and as far
as Russia and Japan. Metropolitan narratives immortalized in
60 shots: portraits of people running, taking the subway, sleep-
ing on docks, sneaking into tunnels. This time Fakso expands
his view beyond graffiti and tracks a robust framework of the
metropolitan scenario embracing the people who inhabit
it. Images of ordinary people, common people plunged into
the underground chaos : Fast or Die is a powerful photo strip
describing the world through the subways - a report of the
contemporary underground.
Fast or Die will be available from March 2011 in selected
55DSL stores worldwide, www.damianieditore.it, and on
