5th Grade Science Menu May 11th - 22nd
Choose one activity to complete each day from this menu. VCS would love to see your work! You can text a picture to my google voice number or post your work in your portfolio in Class Dojo.
Be creative! Use full sentences, proper grammar, and read all directions. Call me during my office hours if you want to discuss any activities or ask me questions. My phone number is 720 551 9498.
Make a flyer about a brand new plant you created as a scientist.
What are its traits? What can you use it for? How does it grow? What
climate is it good in?
Compare and contrast two different types of plants. Think about their habitat, adaptations, and needs.
Write down everything you know about the ocean, and everything you want to know about the ocean. Then call Ms. Goudy during her office hours to talk
about it.
Draw and label an atom as best you can from memory. Then call or email Ms. Goudy to see how much
you got correct.
Write about your favorite thing to eat. Why is it your favorite? Is
it good for you? What is in it?
"Experiment, Fail, Learn, Repeat." Write about this quote. What does
this mean when it comes to science? What does it mean in life?
How does this quote make you feel.
Call Ms. Goudy during office hours to discuss one of your favorite
science topics. It could be something you learned this year or something you are just interested
in.
Write a paragraph on how science influences history. Think about what you
learned in history class, and what science took place during those times. How did we discover this science? How
did it change the course of history?
Keep a journal for a week on what you eat and how much you
exercise. Then reflect on it. How does this relate to science? What can you learn from writing down
and reflecting on your habits? How does science inform us about our
health?
If you were a plant, what type of plant would you be? Why? What would you look like? Where do
you live? What is your life cycle?
Make a comic strip about climate change. Think about how climate
change occurs, what it causes, and how it can be fixed.
Read a book, piece of mail, a news paper, and anything else you can read, and find 5 scientific words
and give the definition in your own words. These can be words you
learned this year or other vocabulary you've learned from
other science classes.
Make a Rube Gollberg machine. You can either build it with items in your
home or draw one out.
Recreate the scientific method. Add at least one new step to the
scientific method you think is important to have and would improve scientific research.
Write a letter to Ms. Goudy to try to convince her to add a new science unit to learn next year. This can be any science topic,
but it can't be one already in the year. You must give pros and
cons of why I should teach this new unit.
Spend about 10 minutes outside (with parent permission) or look out your window and pick something
very specific to observe, like a squirel, a human, or a plant. Write down all of your observations for
the 10 minutes you observe.
Write a paragraph on how science fiction can influence real science
and how real science can influence sicence fiction. Think about science
fiction stories from the past and present, then think about actual
scientific discoveries. How do you feel about how much influence
science and science fiction have on one another?
Make a short story about the life as an element from the chemistry unit. Do you
know about many protons you have? How many electrons? How about
neurtrons? Where can humans usually find/use you? Think of Hydrogren for example: you are in water, acid, and
more!
Write a science fiction story based off of something you learned this year. This should be at least 2
paragraphs. The Units to explore are Classifying living things, chemistry, plants, and the
environment.
Think about the last book you read, or any other book you
have seen and write about how scientifically accurate it was.
Thank about if it was realistic, or if there were just a couple
scientific inaccuracies. Then write about how you know how
accurate it is.

Write down everything you know about chemistry, and everything you want to know about chemistry. Then call Ms. Goudy during her office hours to talk

can depending on their size.
