BENEDICTION POSTLUDE “Postlude in Classical Style” Gordon Young MATTHEW 15:21-28 (NIV) “Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.’ Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, ‘Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.’ He answered, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.’ The woman came and knelt before him. ‘Lord, help me!’ she said. He replied, ‘It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.’ ‘Yes it is, Lord,’ she said. ‘Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.’ Then Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.’ And her daughter was healed at that moment.”

P: This welcome is different from what we see in the world around us, a world often divided along religious, racial, and ethnic lines. L: As God’s children, we are called to bridge the gaps of brokenness and live an example of reconciliation. P: Everyone is welcome here to worship because Jesus Christ welcomes ALL people into God’s kingdom. Amen.

CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Prayer of Confession: (In Unison) Lord of all people, we gather in this house of worship knowing that you love
and accept all people equally. However, many of us grew up in a world divided along lines of race and ethnicity. Even the church taught us that our beliefs and successes were signs that you favor us above others. Help us to rid ourselves of this thinking and to break free from the wrong-headed influences of the past so that we can embrace the reality of your kingdom. Amen.
L: Let us now pray together the prayer that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us: P: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

LIFE INVENTORY SHEETS
What happens when we die? Our Christian faith assures us that death leads to eternal life with God. Meanwhile, family members, friends, and the pastors are sometimes in need of certain information that if available, could help them deal more appropriately with the grief and death of a loved one. The church office has Life Inventory Sheets that can assist your family during that time. If you would like a form to fill out, please contact the office at (623) 935-3411 or [email protected].
