A Preacher’s Perspective
How grateful we are to be home. We had awonderful trip to Pepperdine. The lectureswere focused on the Sermon on the Mount,
so we had powerful reminders to think about our LordJesus and to hear Him speak to us.
As Bobbye and I were eating on Friday eveningwith some friends, I was remembering that just a fewdays previously, she had been in the hospital in greatdiscomfort. How gracious is our God in answering ourprayers. Thank you allfor your prayers on herbehalf.
Another special joywhich blessed our tripthis year was that ourson Tim was able tojoin us. He had neverbeen to California, and it was fun to helphim get a taste of thewest coast. But evenmore joyful was justgetting to share thespiritual experiencewith him and to havelong talks about God.Bobbye and I loved hearing him sing “Just a Little Talkwith Jesus” in the praise time on Wednesday night. Itwas powerfully led by a black brother and Tim sangwith all his heart.
We couldn’t help, again, but remember thehorrible days of last August when his life was in thebalance. Praise God for your prayers and for Hiswonderful gifts. We are so grateful for Tim, Jon andSarah, for our sons Al, JJ, and Joe. And we are soblessed that you have allowed us to join our lives withyours in this sweet fellowship.
Today we will enjoy a special fellowship mealtogether as a kind of wrap-up of another year of smallgroup times. I want to thank Don Brewster, especially,
for his work in developing materials for the groups. He has done a great job and has poured his loveinto his efforts. Thanks also to Cliff and Bob Voigtsand to others who have worked to plan andorganize our small group experiences.
Special thanks should also be given to ourwonderful hosts, our group leaders. I know fromour own experiences with Tim Boyd’s group, and Ihear from comments about the other groups, thatthese opportunities to share our hearts and to shareour vision and love for God have been a greatblessing. Be sure to thank your group leaders.
Jesus’ church andour relationships arepowerfully described byPaul in Hecalls the Corinthianshis “living letters.” Weare messages to oneanother and from Godand our lives and lovereflect the passion ofGod for His children. We are designed, personally, and as thechurch, to embrace, toenjoy, to encourage, and to edify oneanother.
I just want to challenge any of you who havemissed out on these very powerful gatherings to tryto arrange your schedules to include them when weresume. We cannot have the fulness of fellowshipwhich God has intended if you are not a part of theexperience. No one except you can bring yourinsights, your love and your life perspective to ourpartnership. Think about it. We need you.
God’s goodness is our great treasure and thesweetest joy of our souls. God’s church is thetreasure house of the good gifts He pours out on usand on the world.

Hello, my name is Jeremy McGill. I was recentlyattacked by four wild elephants while doing the Lord’s workin Asia. This letter will be sent to more than 200 families asa way of showing my gratitude for prayers, cards, andcontributions to my health. The words on this paper cannotfully express how my heart has changed from the love youhave shown. There are many moments when I feel yourprayers and breakdown into tears. The love of Jesus whoconnects us all is very overwhelming. I have only been aChristian for about a year and a half. The love that broughtme into this family of believers, now sustains my faith andshows a deeper meaning. You have encouraged me in a wayyou can never know, but believe me, I truly feel the love ofChrist in you. I want to be a part of your life, as you havebeen a part of my life and have helped me to growphysically, mentally, and most importantly, spiritually.
As of now, I am able to walk and get about pretty good.I have an MRI scheduled on my left arm, shoulder, andback. This might possibly result in more surgery, buteveryone expects for a full-recovery. This would not bepossible without your prayers and the Great Healeranswering our hearts’ crying request. I have learned so manythings from this incident, patience being the hardest lessonof all, and true Christian love being the warmest feeling onecould ever experience. I hope to cross paths with you and tohug your necks and to thank you personally. I still have along ways to go and seemingly a lot of time to reflect, pray, and grow. The next few months will be a trying time for me,as I have many limitations and many milestones before me.Yet, I know the love of God and His people will abound. Iplan to write another book, and to give the testimony ofChristian love to all who live in His earth, for this light hasbrought me out of the darkness and should be shined on allmankind.
I thank you for everything you do for me and for theFather; our rewards await us, as His blood saves us.
Sincerely, Jeremy McGill
