Introduction
•Study to Determine the existing status of 100 lakes in Bangalore was assigned to Kiran Consultants.
•Critical Information which will indicate the health of lakes
•Provide key inputs on their restoration progress.
Approach
1.Literature Review : Lakshman Rau Commitee report, Environmental Support Group (ESG), Centre for Lake Conservation(CLC), Environmental
Management & Policy Research Institute(EMPRI), Namma Bengaluru Foundation.
2.Preparatory Work : Selection of lakes evenly distributed over the city
3.Secondary Data Collection : Filed RTI on lake status and details on encroachment
4.Site Visits (Primary Data) : Our team of Environmental Engineers, hydro-geologists inspect each lake individually to inspect the given parameters of the lake.

•58 lakes have an area more than 20 acres ; 28 lakes between 10-20 acres.
•64 lakes in the sample are already fenced ; 13 lakes partially fenced ; 22 not fenced.
•43 lakes have diverted sewage ; 10 lakes have STPs installed ; 47 lakes sewage is still let in.
•63 lakes have a catchment bund.
•59 lakes have desilted beds ; 36 lakes not done ; 5 lakes under progress. Similar numbers w.r.t. bund formation and revetment.
• 46 lakes have flora plantation ; 8 lakes under progress ; 46 lakes not done.
•56 lakes have active faunal biodiversity and birdlife.
•Fishing is carried out in 29 lakes in the sample.
•16 lakes have a Kalyani ; 3 under progress..
Discussion
• Involvement of community is active (Trust), Partial (FB page/Blog), Inactive if no secondary citizen information was available. • Bangalore North have developed lakes which are already developed but seem to have lower involvement of the community when compared to Bangalore East and Bangalore South.• 6 lakes under the Electronic City Industrial Authority are yet to be developed.
