The Wheel
Just a quick Recap…
ASSUMPTIONS:
- You have a Facebook Account- You have a LinkedIn Account- You have a Twitter Account- You have a blog setup
So, What’s holding you back?
• Time commitment?• Don’t know what to say?• Overwhelmed?• Don’t like to write?
First of all…
You have to have a goal.
I like Facebook and everything, but I’m just spinning my wheels if I don’t have a goal. Sure, I like writing a blog, but am I writing for fun, or am I writing to gain something?
Social Media
IS NOT A MAGIC BULLET
You need to know what you’re talking about.
• What is something you could talk forever about?
• What are you passionate about?• What is your value to the world?
Then, you get this working:
A Blog without social media integration in useless!
Blogging:
The top 5 reasons to make your blog your homepage-
5. Organic search results -- long tail searching
4. It’s cheap.
3. Engage your demographic more effectively
2. A blog can do everything your website can do, but better.
1. You can connect everything.EVERYTHING.to one place.
How to use your blog effectively:
• Be the SOURCE for your target demographic.• Reviews of news articles, videos, government
mandates, housing costs, neighborhood trends- other people’s blogs- are all perfectly acceptable blog topics.
• BE REAL. BE TRANSPARANT
Don’t like to write? How about video?
• Short for Video Log. • Using sites like YouTube or Vimeo, you can
embed the videos into your blog.
How do I get Traffic?
• BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE Install Google Analytics. You need to be able to track this stuff!

Traffic Ideas:
• Here’s what we do-• Use Twitter and Facebook to talk about your
blog (remember that wheel?)• Have Share buttons, Twitter widgets, and
Facebook Badges. Allow users to share as they see fit
• Not ALL the time, but its ok to drop a line about the new blog post you wrote.
Leave Comments!
Piggyback your blog by using someone else’s hard work!
When you get a comment…- That person very likely will be addressing a
larger sentiment.- Feedback is awesome.
Traffic Tips
Write interesting content.(Billboards are useless if there is no store)
Read other blogs and leave comments(it’s a conversation, remember?)
Put your Blog URL on everything-
How do I get Twitter Followers?
• Register yourself on www.wefollow.com• Determine what 3 things you’re interested in
connecting with people on, and search for those people
• Make your bio accurate-– When you search for people to follow, it searches
through their bios…
DO NOT lock your profile. DO have a picture
This goes along with SEO-
Be available to be found, have great content, and engage in social media.
Make a time commitment- whether it’s 15 minutes a week or an hour a day- to be active on Facebook, Twitter, or writing a blog.
Also…
Basic blog sites (Wordpress.com, Blogger.com, etc.) are ok, but you have to take the training wheels off at some point. There’s so much more power with a Wordpress.org site
*PS- You can have as many blogs as you’d like. I have 4.*
