TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
Images:
Denotation: Wire, Meat signs and chainsaws
Conatation: Inversed images make it abnormal, he doesn’t like death and could potentially kill someone.
Mis-en-scene: Facial expressions are heavily used. The location seems unclean, and the fright of the character makes it seem that whatever is being done to him is involuntary. The killer is made to seem mysterious.
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
How does this all create enigma?
Fade In’s create suspense, as do the flashing images.
The killers face is never fully shown so it adds tension.
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

supernatural. The blood dripping could show that
will die in this movie, in perhaps intricate fashion. The
focus on water could show that something quite pure could be at the heart of it.
THE RING
Mis-en-scene: Innocence is played out through the character and her costume. She is dressed kind of like a school girl emphasizing her age. The setting is made to look quite normal until you see the water dripping from the doorknob.
How does all of this create Enigma?

THE RING
SE7EN
Genre: Crime/Drama/Mystery
Font/Titles: Warped writing with some parts hand written. Its quite faded. It has awkward spacing and is quite wonky. There is also a range of sizes and its never quite clear and
is quite jumpy. It looks manipulated.
Camera Shots: Extreme Close ups are constantly used, not much is ever given away.
Camera Angles: High Angles when looking at pictures and writing.
SE7EN
Sound:
Non-Diagetic: The high pitched noise and radio tuning. It also has
a sexual song called ‘Closer’ by Nine Inch Nails which
is ironic considering the plot of the film.Diagetic: The sound made when smoothing out Sellotape.
Special Effects: Unfocused images, echoing/Ghost trail, Black and White Sepia and blurred images.
Transitions: Fade outs, fast fading, page turning in sync with the transitions. This has purposely been used to create disorientation amongst the audience.
SE7EN
SE7EN
Editing/Pace: Its quite slow paced but picks up towards the end as the music builds. Continuity editing is used.
Images:
Denotation: Blood dripping, editing out sexual words and the pictures of the boy.
Connotation: The blood signifies that people could be killed,
the editing of the sexual words could suggest that
the character is quite conserved and sees it as
inappropriate and the crossing out of the boy’s
face could suggest he dislikes the person in the picture.
Mis-en-scene: Everything is unclear but looks vaguely sinister. The dirty fingernails suggests that the character
shown is a hard worker or a manual labourer. The images of screws through heads are deliberately frightening and are
put there to shock the audience.
How does this create Enigma?
The character’s face is never shown, this makes him quite mysterious, if not sinister. His face is his identity and once that is gone, his identity is removed and the audience has nothing to go by.
