WithournewbrandingastheCenterforInfectiousDiseaseResearch(www.cidresearch.org),ourscientistsarenowabletousesystem’s biology approaches to make transformative scientific advancements that lead to the prevention and treatment ofinfectious diseases. Education has been an integral part of ourmission sincewe commenced operations nearly 40 years ago.Starting at the high school level, we foster a continuum of training and engagement with students to inspire tomorrow’sbiomedical pioneers. TheBioQuest Academy (www.cidresearch.org/bioquest-academy) program fosters global health interestandbuildscapacitythroughteachertrainingswithcurricularresourcesalignedtothelateststandardsandanarrayofconnectedstudent programs (Site Explorations, BioQuest Academy and teacher training). • Attending BioQuest Academy is a funway to get an education in infectious disease content, biotech skills and biomedicaltheory, and can also be a game-changing experience for rising high school seniors. Thirty six of 2014 BioQuest summerAcademy students are off to schools such as Yale University, Brown University, Cornell University, Stanford University,UniversityofWashington(UW),ScrippsCollege,andUCSanDiego.91%ofour276olderalumnihavealreadygraduatedfromcollege(79%inSTEMfields)—23arepursuingpost-baccalaureatestudies,sevenarepracticingnursesand53ofthemhavereturnedtoworkinCIDResearchprogramsasinternsandtechnicians!
