FAITH

St. Mary Catholic School

Dear Parents:

The final few weeks of the 2014-2015 school year are upon us. Another year has

almost ended. Just when you think life cannot get any busier, it certainly does! In

talking with the students, they shared that between sporting events, dance

recitals, concerts, First Communions, Confirmation Mass, and graduations, they are

doing their best to keep up with book reports, (research) papers, science and social

studies projects, and just homework in general. Please continue to monitor your

child’s schedule and study habits to ensure time is allotted each night for his/her

studies. The end is in sight, but it really isn’t here yet!

Our final days are action-packed, so please keep our calendar close. Hopefully, you

will be able to join us for our First Friday Masses in May and June. Opportunities

to chaperone field trips including the SUNS’ game and Antietam Recreation Day,

will keep you involved in our school activities.

I also ask for your prayers that more families will make the commitment to Catholic

education as you have and enroll their children in St. Mary Catholic School for the

2015-2016 school year.

First Friday Mass &

May Crowning Please join us for our school liturgy on Friday, May 1, at 10:30 A.M. During our Mass, the fourth graders will honor the Blessed Mother with flowers and song.

JUNE MASS Please join us on June 5 for our final First Friday Mass of the year at 10:30 A.M.

OPERATION RICE BOWL Catholic Relief Services received a total of $891.53 from SMCS, thanks to our families and students who contributed. We appreciate Ms. Ward for coordinating this worthy service project and Mrs. Hammond for handling the financial responsibilities.

FIRST EUCHARIST Brian Franco, Parker Conroy, and Leah McCafferty will receive their First Holy Communion on May 2 at St. Ann Catholic Church. Sofia Alexander, Diego Cabezas, Chloe Dellaposta, Samuel Hall, Adam Kershner, Jacob Kijowski, Madelyn Kreps, Louis Maciulla, Madeline Mercurio-Vitulli, Claire O’Connor, Madelynn Renken, Keira Ritch, Jonathan Shultz, Landon Smith, Lauren Stine, Rose Waldron, Jasmyn Williams, and Quincy Swett will receive First Holy Communion at St. Mary Catholic Church on May 3. Please keep all of these students in your thoughts and prayers as they continue on their faith journeys.

Opportunities to Give & Make a Difference 2015 ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

The Eleventh Annual Fund, under the leadership of Mrs. Deb Bockrath and Mr. Bob Rankin, kicked off last month. Maintaining our current technology capabilities, providing a safe learning environment that only allows our students to access appropriate and reputable internet sites, and providing tuition support will be the fruits of this campaign. Our students will be better prepared to meet the challenges of living, learning, and working in an ever-changing, information-rich world. If you have not already made a donation, please prayerfully consider becoming a donor to our Annual Fund.

SMCS Endowment Fund: Mustard Seed Match for Endowed

Scholarships The Archdiocese of Baltimore will award $1 for every $2 that SMCS raises through December 31, 2015, to establish an endowed fund within the Catholic Community Foundation which will specifically support tuition assistance for students enrolled in SMCS. Please consider making a donation with the knowledge that it will be matched a dollar for every two dollars you donate. Many thanks are extended to Deb Bockrath, Patti Jones, Jennifer Harman, Susan Bloom, Bella Barron, Wanda Gerstner, and Carolyn Bryant for preparing the mailings. Also, Joe Dellaposta and WPS for printing all the brochures. Donations can be made by credit card or online giving.

St. Mary Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Baltimore have a commitment to maintaining the trust of the faithful by providing our children and youth with safe environments characterized by healthy relationships. With our longstanding commitment in mind, all parishes and archdiocesan Catholic schools use Shield the Vulnerable, a compliance management system that allows all parishes and schools to facilitate compliance with archdiocesan child protection requirements for all volunteers who work with minors, employees, and clergy. Please register as a St. Mary Catholic School volunteer at www.shieldthevulnerable.org. All new volunteers should complete the process as soon as possible.

All volunteers should have received a letter from Mrs. Jan McCarter outlining the steps you need to complete in order to transition into the Shield the Vulnerable system. Beginning July 1, all volunteers must have completed Shield the Vulnerable.
