Friends of ** * Cohoes-5enior Center
* * Our first meeting on July 25th was a hit. We had a great time getting to know each other and learning about the purpose of coming together stronger to support the Senior Center . .
What the Friends do
We collectively decided, through majority rules decision making, to start our time together focusing on the following:
• Bringing more people to the senior center • Recruiting nmore volunteers • Becoming ambassadors for the Senior
Center in senior housing and churches • Planning programs & activities • Helping with fundraising
We decided to meet once a month for the hour before dinner on Tuesdays. Staff from the Cohoes Senior Center or Senior Services of Albany will be at each meeting to provide support . Friends and staff are committed to being united in purpose and action to support the senior center.
Programming & other ideas
Ideas that were presented by those who attended the first meeting of Friends are below. If you have any interest in helping to get any of these ideas started, please come to our next meeting or see Beth Slezak • Round table discussions • Menu collaboration • Ethnic nights • Movie nights • 50150 raffles • Advertising in Penny Saver for events • Mailings to membership for input & up-
dates • Seasonal wreath sales • Marketing support to the Center • Trips • Sewing, knitting, book clubs • Re-organizing/re-decorating the front
rooms at the Center
The next meeting of Friends of Cohoes Senior Center is Tuesday, August 22nd from 4:00-5:00 pm in the dining room . We will be setting up groups to move forward on our collective decision to bring vitality to the center. Think about joining one of these groups: Fundraising (Christmas Bazaar}, Trips, Arts & Crafts, and Program Planning. We will also be discussing the contest to redecorate the front rooms at the center. Come and get involved as we move forward to a new and revitalized senior center
