According to History: The all-new 2013 Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe mark the
beginning of the ninth generation of Honda’s best-selling midsize car. Accord has
won countless awards and accolades over its 37-year history, based on its successful
design, styling, performance, technology, safety and engineering.
In 1976, the first-generation Accord was introduced as a three-door hatchback.
In 1979, a four-door sedan was added. The second-generation Accord debuted in
1982 and continued to build on its legacy of practicality, superior ride and handling
and impressive fuel efficiency. 1986 saw the introduction of the third-generation
Accord. Suspension and performance enhancements appeared on both the highly
successful sedan and the newly introduced coupe models.
The fourth-generation Accord, introduced in 1990, grew in both size and reputation
as a midsize sedan. VTEC technology made its debut on the fifth-generation Accord
in 1994; the iconic sixth-generation Accord was unveiled in 1998. A larger and
more powerful seventh-generation Accord featured four-cylinder and V6 engine
choices along with navigation and a variety of safety enhancements, including
standard side-curtain and passenger front-side airbags entered the midsize
segment in 2003. In 2008, the eighth-generation Accord was launched.
More luxurious, more sophisticated, better performing and better equipped than
any other model in the Accord’s 37-year history, the ninth-generation Accord
Sedan and Coupe are still tightly focused on providing the same long-established
blend of unbeatable Honda safety and security, value for money and fun-to-drive
performance and handling, as well as passenger comfort and convenience. Simply
