September 2015 Issue 177
The next guild meeting will be on September 21 at 7:00 pm in the
church Sanctuary with Mark Lipinski
You will be hard pressed to find a more entertaining lecture and enjoyable quilting class than one taken
with international quilt teacher and quilt fabric designer and creator and former Executive Editor
of Quilter's Home magazine, and Executive Editor of Mark Lipinski's Fabric Trends and Mark Lipinski's
Christmas 365 magazines. Mark's no holds barred, brutally honest, riotous talks are half about quilting,
half show & tell, and all stand-up comedy.
Tidbits:
— Mark introduced The Slow Stitching Movement to quilters in June 2014 with a twice record-breaking
webinar, and with that success, expanded the concept of Slow Stitching to knitters, crocheters, and the
needle arts in November 2014.
— Has a series of "DIY quilting videos" available on CraftDaily.com.
— Appeared on Iowa Public Television's Quilts of Valor special hosted by Marianne Fons, along with spe-
cial guests, Eleanor Burns and Alex Anderson.
— Does volunteer work and presents quilts for the national Quilts of Valor Foundation.
— Was recently a featured celebrity guest on the Quilt In A Day webinar series and is featured in the lat-
est Eleanor Burns book, All Star Quilts, featuring Marianne Fons, Nancy Zieman, and Alex Anderson.

will be there off and on during the day on Friday setting up. We will not be advertising, so spread the
word and bring your friends on Saturday. Donation Suggestions include: fabric yardage and scraps,

Members at Large Soon the leaves will be turning colors and our gardens will be ready for the fall har-vest., Canning will be done, leaves raked and then it's time to head back to our sewing spaces. Time to start sewing with those glorious fall reds, golds, browns and Halloween fabrics. Please remember to make donation quilts for Mercy Pediatrics Unit, domestic violence cen-ter and the veterans in Pleasant Hill Veterans Home. We will have a community sew day on November 1st in conjunction with Saturday sew. Beefburgers will be served. Come and have lunch with us and work on donation quilts for our various charities. For donation quilts, November will be a double points month towards the gift card drawing in December. Re-member - if you had anything to do with a donation quilt, you are eligible to put your name in our drawing box. As we mentioned at the August meeting, we will be having a contest for our name tags. Be thinking of some creative way to express your personality in a small name tag form. Effec-tive at the January meting, we will only provide name tag stickers for guests and new mem-bers. Remember you must be wearing your name tag to be eligible for door prizes. Enjoy this wonderful fall weather and ladies, start your machines! Sherri Olson and Diana Weirich
Harriet Hargrave Workshop at the church
Yes you can quilt on your domestic machine
October 18th 12:30 -- 7:00
Cost: $40
If you are discouraged about learning to quilt on your home machine, don't believe that you will ever
be able to quilt feathers, or are just tired of having to send everything out to someone else to finish,
come spend the day with Harriet and find out just how doable traditional machine quilting is. This is
not long arm style quilting or free form quilting, but free motion quilting using lines for consistency
and accuracy. You will be able to quilt open feathers by the end of the class. Harriet’s method of
teaching goes beyond spending time scribbling on fabric; you will actually LEARN what is involved
in excellent achieving excellent quilting. Practicing should be a journey of improvement, not monoto-
nous boredom. You will start with grid work without lines, moving into learning to keep your stitches
even and then staying on a line accurately. We end the day quilting open feathers.
The book “Heirloom Machine Quilting” 4th edition by Harriet Hargrave is required for this class. See
Warren Larsen for ordering the book or for registering for the class.

REFRESHMENTS
We still need refreshment volunteers for January and
February of 2016. Please be assured that the refresh-

preciate all of the delicious foods that have been
served, but we don’t expect every meeting to have
complete meals as refreshments. Some simple bars or
cookies and drinks are quite sufficient. What you
serve is up to you. We want to encourage more peo-
ple to participate in providing refreshments for our
meetings.
