Foundations ofAcademic Success

• Register for INT 200 and ENGW 280 during your first two semesters in Holt

• Attend the Annual Kickoff in September info. session to learn about the Education department and programs.

• Visit the department website (rollins.edu/education)

• Register for the General Knowledge (GK) test, utilizing the Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE) website for mini-practice tests and other testing strategy tips.

• Make sure your program of study and FTCE dates are current.

• Study for and take the Subject Area Examination (SAE).

• Build your ETEP, using assignments for artifacts, drafting a few rationales for review with your advisor.

• Network with your program’s peers.

• Work with your advisor and peers to complete your FTCE and ETEP on time.

• Study for and take the Professional Education Exam (PEd) before the your student teaching semester.

• Schedule time to meet with your Holt/program advisor to conduct a graduation petition review of your program of study

• Avoid additional coursework (and work) during student teaching, if possible.

• Save your assignments! They’ll be used for your Expanded Teacher Education Portfolio (ETEP).

• Meet with education faculty to discuss specializations, research opportunities, testing, and upper-level courses.

• Stay on top of your Rollins Education department emails for program changes, deadlines, and upcoming events.

Campus Engagement and Leadership Opportunities

• Learn more about opportunities for community engagement and service learning through the Center for Leadership & Community Engagement (CLCE)

• Find out what clubs and organizations are available that match your interests

• Sign up to be a peer mentor in Holt

• Join a club or organization• Talk with your advisor about KDP,

the Education Honor Society.• Be active in mentoring your peers

through the Holt Peer Mentoring program

• Assume a leadership role in a campus club, organization, or committee

• Help train other peer mentors as a Peer Mentor leader in Holt

• Sign up for a field study or study abroad experience through the Office of International Programs (OIP)

• Participate in community engagement, immersion experiences, or service learning opportunities through CLCE

Career & Life Planning

• Consider becoming an OCPS Additions volunteer or an SCPS Dividends volunteer.

• Use your coursework and clinical experiences to think about grade levels and curriculum areas of interest.

• Register for pre-internships and student teaching opportunities.

• Schedule a career advising session with an advisor from the Center for Career & Life Planning
