It was created in 1670 by King Louis XIV as a shelter for old
soldiers The soldiers were given a comb, wooden spoon, knife,
uniform and shoes. Smoking and women were not allowed at all in any
part of Les Invalides. Married soldiers could sleep out twice a
week, and everybody had to go to Church on Sunday. It was designed

The first stone was laid in 1671 and it was not until 1674 that
the first soldiers were allowed in, and were received in person by

Today Les Invalides is a museum, church and hospital all in
one. The hospital at Les Invalides is still in use as a paraplegic
center and retirement home, although fewer than 100 soldiers live
there. To get to the hospital, you use the northern entrance. WHAT

The Invalides includes both the Muse de l'Arme and Muse des
Plans-Relifs. Theyre both historical military museums that display
things such as armor and cannons, and sections on the first and

Opened in 1677 as a chapel and place for the soldiers to attend
mass and pray. It has a noticeable military background and one of
the largest organs in Paris. It is noted for its light atmosphere

The Church at Les Invalides also has another major attraction:
It is home to the tomb of Napoleon. He rests in a circular
uncovered crypt, high up on a green granite pedestal. Theres a nest
containing six coffins up on the pedestal along with Napoleons
sarcophagus, which contain his brothers, son, and a few who fought

arrondissement. The best stations to get off of if youre taking the

Les Invalides started a trend in the European countries, soon
after it was built many copied the idea of a building for injured
soldiers to stay. The soldiers that lived at Les Invalides worked
with each other in workshops, making uniforms. During the
Revolution, the church lost many of its banners and treasures
because the church was attacked. In 1989, the dome was regilded for
the 5 th time. The total added gold weight equaled around ten kilos

Les Invalides is one of the most visited monuments in Paris,
and it also is home to the largest number of monuments in one area.
People from all over the world come to visit the tomb of Napoleon,
one of the most famous men of history. It contains so much history
