An explosion is a violent expan-sion or bursting caused by a suddenrelease of energy from a very rapidreaction creating enormous tempe-rature and pressure increases. Mostcommon reactions are of flammablegases, vapours and cracked dusts -together with ambient oxygen. As aresult of today's production techno-logies and increased productioncapacities an explosion is a threatcompanies confront daily.Manufacturing or production pro-cesses which create organic or che-mical dusts are extremely hazardous.Finer particles of dust caused byfaster machines, automatic convey-ing systems and air cleaning equip-ment increase the risk of a dustexplosion.
The finer the dust particle, themore severe the explosion will be.International guidelines includingATEX 95 (valid for manufacturers ofmachines and plants) or ATEX 137(valid for operating companies)require companies to consider the
consequences of a dust explosion toinjured workers and damagedplants.
In addition, the economic risk tothe company due to plant shutdown, contaminated product or adversepublicity must be considered.
Special attention is placed on the eli-mination of the ignition source. Thepotential source of ignition is for exam-ple mechanical or electrically producedsparks, frictional heat, electrostatic char-ges (look up earthing systems from ker-sting Industrieausrüstungen, a REMBE®
ALLIANCE company), welding or otherheat sources. Due to the high amount ofpotential ignition sources, you can imagi-ne the difficulty in eliminating them all.
Similarly the removal of the fuel isimpossible as this is the actual product ora waste product produced in the produc-tion process. The last action, is to comple-tely remove the oxygen. This can only beachieved through very expensive proces-sing. The security limits here are alsorapidly reached and the risk of a dustexplosion can not be excluded. Thereforea constructive explosion protection isessential.
Three requirements have tobe met in a modern protectionconcept:
1. ProfitabilityThe concept has to be econo-mical to implement, operateand maintain.
2. ReliabilityThe protected facility has perma-nently and optimally to be avail-able. A break in daily operations, due to false triggering, must beavoided.
3. SafetyPeople and machine must beinsured of an explosion protectedenvironment, through constructiveand effective directives.
All of these featuresare met by REMBE®.
Consequently, REMBE® customerstrust passive safety systems.

Overview explosion panels
Therefore REMBE®
REMBE® offers optimal bursting discconstructions for all applications andworking conditions. For the use incorrosive atmosphere or in case ofextreme working conditions, e. g.frequent changing, pulsating pressureand vacuum REMBE® offers the appli-cable bursting disc. Standard burstpanels require a special mountingprocedure due to their dependency ontorque requirements. These standardpanels are far less efficient and requireadditional installation time resulting inhigher costs. REMBE® bursting discsdistinguish themselves by extremelyprecise burst pressures. These panelsguarantee 100 % efficiency and enableyou to save space and money by optimi-sing the installed venting area. REMBE®
bursting discs are fragmentation-freeand have ideal opening characteristicswhich leads to lower reduced pressure(Pred.). Translate the many benefits ofREMBE® bursting discs into substantialsavings of time and money for yourcompany.

Explosion ventingwith triple-section bursting discs
These domed triple-section burstingdiscs developed by REMBE@ are success-fully in use use for more than 30 years -distinguish themselves by their sturdyconstruction and reliability. Triple sec-tion bursting discs of type ODV aremainly used for applications with lowor middle burst pressures. The burstpressure is determined by the burst ele-ment with integrated breaking pointsand its sealing part. Breaking points aremade by CNC controlled laser microcut-ting machines, that means the highestpossible precision in case of requiredpressure is guaranteed. ODV burstingdiscs are applied to working pressuresup to 80 % of the specified burst pre-ssure. The sealing part (in case of lowor middle burst pressure predominantlyof teflon) isolates the bursting membra-ne from the process - especially on cor-rosive media. ODU triple-sectionbursting discs are suitable for applica-tions without vacuum resistance.

Silo with domed single-layer burst panels in the wod-processing industry
Single-layer explosion vents
The single-layer EDP explosionpanel is suited for slightly fluctuationworking pressures. Due to its domedconstruction high stability and currentcapacity of change in pressure areachieved. The rated breaking points(Pat.No. EP 07 73 393) are integratedwithin the mounting frame.Contamination is minimised by itsdomed construction. Sterility andcleaning is simplified (SIP / CIP cleaning). In this case mounting is directly madeon walls. Controlling the clampingtorque of the mounting framescrews is not necessary.
Incorporated bionic structuresguarantee an extraordinary stabilityin order to suit most standard appli-cations. It is not required to controlthe clamping torque of the screwscompared with similar competitorsconstructions. Mounting is directlymade on even walls or round-shapeequipment, e. g. cyclones, filters, silos, etc.

BIRD (Burst Indicator REMBE® Design)ideal for retrofitting
Assembly accessoriesAssembly kits, e. g. installation framesin galvanised or stainless version withcorresponding screws are available - ifrequested.
External isolationREMBE@ bursting discs are manu-factured with a weather-proof insula-tion in order to prevent from reduceddew point, especially in case of appli-cations in food industry or heat isolati-on. Only closed-cell elastomer withreflecting high-efficient coating is used. The insulation is permanently connectedwith the bursting disc and of lightweight. Therefore an effective openingof the bursting disc is guaranteed.
Accessories / Options
Explosion pressure relief of all burstingdiscs can electrically be signalled by theprinciple of a closed current break. Twostandard types are available:
Type SK / SRThe signalling cable is installed atthe breaking point of the bursting disc.If the bursting disc opens, the safecircuit is interrupted due to the cablebreak. The signalling cable has provenitself as a very reliable method, as thereis no additional assembly required andno movable parts remain.
Type BIRDThis signalling unit is suitable forretrofitting already installed burstingdiscs. A ceramic bar provided with elec-trical conductors is mounted in flowdirection. In case of bursting theelement breaks, the safe circuit isinterrupted like type SK.
Signal evaluationSignal evaluation can be realisedby barriers with relay output whichis used for safe disconnection of theinstallation, alarm, etc.
GasketsFollowing gasket qualities areavailable as accessories:
FDA approved materials for sterile appli-cations, e. g. silicone, EPDM are availa-ble. Further gasket qualities on request.
Certifications, inspections, guidelinesAll models are certified acc. to ATEXguidelinie 94/9 EG and approved bycertification no. FSA04 ATEX 1538X.Every single batch is manufactured acc.to the requirements of prEN 14797,tested and supplied to our customerswith test certificate acc. to EN 10204-3.1.The REMBE@ quality managementsystem has already fulfilled besides thecommon ATEX certification (BVS03 ATEXZQS/E21 0) very high quality manage-ment requirements in the field of nu-clear power and aerospace, e. g. The purpose of the passive non-returnQ-Flap is to protect horizontal aspirationlines with a maximum dust concentrati-on of 1/10 of the LEL (lower ex-plosionlimit) and a flow velocity between15 - 30 m/s. The opening angle of thestainless steel flap is 25° in closed po-sition plus an additional 35° during flow.
So total angle is 60° what leads to a lowpressure drop but quick enough shuttingto stop the explosion. Due to extensiveresearch work and testing under realexplosion conditions we were able toapprove the Q-Flap function for Dust-Ex-Classes St 1 oder St 2 (max. KST-value= 300 bar x m/s). Q-Flap is applicable forreduced pressure (Pred) up to 0.5 bar(72.5 psi).
The Plus version of the Q-Flap offers awear and tear sensor that monitors theabrasion that might occur on the flapitself. Both versions are equipped withan integrated clogging sensor that indi-cates any kind of product accumulationunderneath the seats and ensures safeclosing of the flap.

Q-Flap / Q-Flap Plus
Explosion-, spark- and flame front isolation
The EXKOP® systemprovides safe, eco-nomic and easyexplosion-, spark-and flame front iso-lation. The quench-valves protect inter-connected equip-ment by high speedclosure of a fastacting pinch valve.
The quench valve is triggered by 100 %reliable signal from the maintenance-free triple-section bursting disc, theQ-Rohr®-3 or by IR-, pressure or tempe-rature sensors. The complete system isfailsafe due to an integrated pressurestorage tank and self-monitoring con-troller. In case of explosion the plantpersonell can reset the EXKOP® systemquickly and easily after inspection. Plantdowntime is reduced to a minimum.
The EXKOP® has especially beendeveloped for applications with 1-2quench valves. EXKOP® MINI fulfils theserequirements in an ideal manner.
Two separate inputs (bursting panels,Q-Rohr, spark detectors, etc.) can becombined with two quench valves QV II.
The use of the system is easy and worksacc. to the „one button easy handling”philosophy. As usual all events areobserved by a ring storage memory.
Advanced technology with EXKOP® MINI

The Q-Rohr®-3 consists of an integratedREMBE® bursting disc which vents theexplosion wave in a controlled mannerinto the Q-Rohr®-3. Flame gases withtemperatures higher than 1,500°C(2,732°F) are cooled down to less than90°C (195°F) via energy transfer withinthe special stainless steel mesh filterinlet. This leads to a reduction of theexpanding gas volume as it extinguishesthe flame. Additionally, the pressure riseand high noise level associated with afree vented explosion are reduced tonegligible levels. The specially develo-ped stainless steel mesh filter guaran-tees that no burnt or unburnt dust pas-ses off the Q-Rohr®-3. The Q-Rohr®-3 isreusable immediately after cleaning.

The increased number of explosions inconveyor and elevator systems illustratesthe inherent danger of these systems.
A Q-Rohr®-3 / Q-Box vents the base andthe top of the elevator without need ofadditional vent ducts. Infrared sensorsdetect a propagating flame and triggera specialized water mist suppressionsystem. Fine water mist extinguishes theflame and prohibits any propagation ofthe eminent explosion.
Its ability to be retrofitted intoexisting structures gives it an additionaleconomic advantage.

Explosion suppression system –optimised for individual requirements
This system is suitable for indoor appli-cations where the explosion cannot bedischarged to the outside. It extinguis-hes the explosion at the point where itoccurs.
Combustions are identified and stoppedin the beginning. The starting explosionis suppressed due to prompt blowingout dry powder in the endangered area. The dry powder extracts the heat andthe explosion is inerted. As the explosi-on is limited consequential losses are cutto a minimum.
Your benefits:
