Let them get used to the carrier’s presence
Leave the carrier out, and let them be comfortable with it (thus not linking it with a traumactic transport, esp to the vet)

With that said, how about sometimes let them get used to it by carrying them in it from a room to another.

If your cat is on the feisty side…
Notify the vet if any assistance is needed, so that they can prepare to receive you and your cat.

Try to lift some nervousness off
Spray the carrier with synthetic pheromones if your cat is still nervous.
