From the Director
Busy October As you will see in this
newsletter, October is one of
our busiest months of the year.
GTC has hosted several Pro-
gram Advisory Meetings,
Open House and Parent/
Teacher conferences just to
name a few! Our industry
partners gave our staff some
great insight to what employ-
ers are looking for in an em-
ployee. Employability skills
and problem solving skills
were at the top of their list.
Our instructors will take this
information and continue to
revise their curriculum to meet
the needs of an ever-changing
job market to prepare our stu-
dents for job readiness.
Nick Thieman, Director
GTC hosts Program Advisory Night Each program at Gibson Tech conducts an Advisory Meeting
twice a year to receive input from business partners, parents, students
and community members. The primary purpose of the local Program
Advisory Committee is to assist educators in establishing, operating,
and evaluating programs which serve the needs of students, business
and industry, and to provide expertise pertaining to technological
change.
Topics may include curriculum development, public relations, job
placement, recruiting, and program evaluation. The Culinary Arts
class catered a delicious meal for all of the advisory members to en-
joy as they conducted their meetings.
Advisory students raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Students at GTC sold ribbons, buttons, t-shirts and several other
items to raise money to go to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the
Ozarks.

Computer Technology I students have been busy working on several projects this year. Students
are learning the facets of Microsoft Windows 10 and how software (operating systems) interact with
hardware. During lab days students have learned how to fix or replace damaged hard drives by fol-
lowing troubleshooting procedures.
Second year students have new iMac computers. They have been studying the Mac operating
system and using the iMacs to connect to Linux and Windows networks and are learning network
commands and remote login technology.

CTE Nontraditional Careers Nontraditional career: any occupation in which women or men comprise 25 percent or less of its total employment.
One of the goals of CTE is to help students become aware of all career opportunities, including nontradi-
tional career opportunities, unrestricted by gender, social, or cultural expectations. All students are encouraged
to recognize their own personal skills and abilities and to look “outside the box” in order to consider the full
range of career options available to them, unconstrained by traditional gender role stereotyping. When students
apply the skills learned and recognize the abilities and interests gained in the secondary school programs, they
may achieve a higher level of job satisfaction as they pursue post-secondary education and job opportunities.
GTC is proud to provide an opportunity for these students to pursue careers of their choice: Erika Bollinger,
