The parasympathe c nervous system (PSNS, or occasionally PNS) is one of the three main divisions of the autonomic nervous sys-tem (ANS). The ANS is responsible for regula on of internal organs and glands, which occurs unconsciously. To be specifi c, the para-sympathe c system is responsible for s mula on of «rest-and-di-gest» or «feed and breed» ac vi es that occur when the body is at rest, including sexual arousal, saliva on,lacrima on (tears), urina- on, diges on, and defeca on.

As scia c pain is o en discogenic (‘of disc origin’ and thus related to intervertebral disc injury). Such condi ons are o en associated with compression or compressive forces being applied to the disc.Working on the level of L4/5 could cause more disc material to be extruded and further irritate the scia c nerve root.
