NEW DATE for
Parent-Teacher
Conferences
Due to the success of our boys and girls basketball teams, GCHS may be hosting a second round state playoff game. We will need to move our Parent-Teacher
Conference date to Tuesday, February 27th from 4pm - 8pm.
President’s Day
There will be no school for students or staff on Monday, February 19th for
President’s Day. School will resume at 8:00am on Tuesday, February 20th.
It is difficult to believe that we are already four weeks into the second semester. Last week, we honored over 100 students who received a 4.0 G.P.A. for the first semester! It is very difficult to earn a 4.0 G.P.A. at The Castle, and we appreciate all of the effort these students applied to their classwork. Many of these
students are also active in extracurricular activities, clubs and athletics. Look for these students as well as other honor roll students later in this newsletter!

ATTENTION PARENTS!
Parents: If your senior has not yet applied for the
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid),
they should do so during break. Scholarship
applications will begin opening in January, and
many will not process applications if the FAFSA isn't
complete. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need 2016 taxes for you and your
senior (if applicable). There will be help available during Parent Teacher
Conferences in the Library Computer Lab.
Advanced Placement Test
Reviews
With Advanced Placement testing coming this spring.
Students in some AP courses will be able to take part in the following test review sessions. Locations to be determined.
Please put these dates on your calendar.

AP Classes for the 2018-19
School Year
The next few months are an
important time for our AP program at
Greeley Central. It’s hard to believe,
but by the end of the month,
discussions will begin about classes
for the 2018-2019 school year! The
lifeblood of our AP program is the
simple act of students registering for
an AP class. The 22 AP classes that
are offered at Greeley Central are
made possible by students.
Taking an AP class is a great way to
challenge yourself academically and
show colleges that you are serious
about your education. Since AP
courses are rigorous and require you
to study for a comprehensive exam,
they teach you skills that will help
you in college classes. According to
College Board, students who take AP
exams get higher grades in college
than those with similar classes who
don’t take AP exams.
Next year we will be
offering the AP Capstone
program at Greeley Central. This is a
diploma program from College Board
designed to equip students with skills
in research, teamwork, collaboration,
and communication skills increasingly
valued by colleges. To earn the AP
Capstone diploma, students will take
AP research, AP Seminar, 4 AP classes
of their choice, and score a 3 or
higher on each exam. AP seminar
will be offered in the next year for
sophomores and juniors who want to
pursue this prestigious opportunity.
(See Diagram Below Regarding AP
Capstone Diploma)
If you have any questions about AP
classes, on February 27th at Greeley
Central during Parent/Teacher
Conferences please stop by the
library at 7:00 for an AP presentation.
AP Test Registration
Students will register for AP exams the week of February 12 in their AP classes.
A student’s signature to take the exam will insure one will be ordered. If a
student signs up to take the exam, they have committed to a $15 dollar
nonrefundable fee. AP exams cost $94 per test. Students that participate in
the free and reduced lunch program are eligible to have test fee reduced per
exam if a nutritional services letter for free and reduced lunch is turned in on or
before March 15th. The letter may be turned into Nancy Kern in the main
office. Final Payment is due to the finance office by March 15th.
You can pay online using the school’s web store by CLICKING THIS LINK.

Crystal Apple Award for Northern Colorado
Once a month, the radio station WAY-FM takes submissions for their Crystal Apple Award. Students share how their teacher has gone above and beyond the call of duty. This is a great way to honor teachers for all of their hard work.
On January 31st, WAY-FM made their way to Greeley Central High School. We want to congratulate WAY-FM’s January 2018 winner, our very own, Mr. Justin Davis!
“Way” to go, Justin and thanks for

Bright Futures Grant Program changes for 2018 graduates!
The Bright Futures program was designed with one objective in mind–strengthening the vitality of the Weld County community through its workforce. By nurturing and supporting our young generation, we are building a strong foundation for a stable economy. Understanding the importance of trade skills as well as academic skills, the Board of Commissioners designed the program to financially assist students who pursue post-secondary education or training from an accredited higher-education institution or certified training program. The program is funded by taxpayers for qualifying Weld County residents who have graduated from high school, GED recipients and honorably discharged U.S. Veterans, after 2016. Qualified and accepted recipients receive financial assistance for pursuing post-secondary education or training from a Title IV accredited higher education institution or certified training program.
Seniors we will have a special Bright Futures meeting in Seminar on Thursday, February 8th. For
more information go to http://www.brightfuturesco.com. There will be a district Bright Futures
