Device placement guidelines
Position in rack Devices with internal cooling fans that move air from front to back (or vice versa) and not from beneath or above have no special cooling requirements that direct placement in the rack. All of the storage systems and enclosures mentioned in this document have fans that move air from front to back.
Requirements are as follows:
◆ DAE enclosures should be installed above the SPE to facilitate cable routing in the rear of the Telco rack.
◆ SPS trays (AC systems) should be installed below the storage processor enclosure.
For example, arrange a typical SPE and DAE configuration as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 2 CX4 series enclosure placement in a Telco rack (generic SPE)
Device dimensionsDimensions and weights for CX4 series system components are listed in the Technical Specifications and Operating Limits document for each system, available in the Technical Documentation and Advisories section of the EMC Powerlink website: http://Powerlink.EMC.com.

Power considerations
Power distribution must support the number of outlets required for the device (2 per enclosure) and the device power rating. Power specifications for CX4 series system components are listed in the Technical Specifications and Operating Limits document for each system, available in the Technical Documentation and Advisories section of the EMC Powerlink website: http://Powerlink.EMC.com.
Note: System specifications and guidelines specific to CX4 series systems with DC-48 V DC power are listed in the EMC CLARiiON DC Powered CX4 Series Enclosures Installation and Operation Guide (300-007-920), also available on the Powerlink website.
For high availability, a CX4 series system requires at least two discrete site power circuits. Each SPS unit (AC systems) should connect to a separate power distribution unit and power source; power supplies in any component should not share a power source.
◆ AC power cords for the SPE and first DAE connect to SPS output AC receptacles.
◆ DC systems do not use an SPS.
Figure 3 shows a typical AC power connection configuration.

Installing a 2U SPS in a Telco rack
CX4 Series Encolsures Hardware Installation Guide for Telco Racks
Installing a 2U SPS in a Telco rackThis section describes the components of the 2U, 2.2 KW SPS mounting kit (SPS-TELCO-2U) used in AC-powered CX4-960 systems. It also describes how to install the mounting kit on the Telco rack and how to install the SPSs in the mounting kit. Note that an SPS is not required for DC-powered systems.
2U SPS mounting kit (SPS-TELCO-2U)The following table lists and describes the components in a 2U SPS mounting kit. Illustrations of these components can be found in Figure 4 on page 8. The quantity listed below is per configuration (includes two SPSs).

Installing 2U SPS mounting traysThis section describes how to install the front and rear 2.2 KW SPS trays on the Telco rack.
Note: Be sure to allow enough room to install the SPE and all the DAEs above the 2.2 KW SPS. Remember that although the SPS units are 2U high, the Telco rack mounting kit requires 3U vertical space.
For ease of installation, use a screwdriver with at least a 10" long shaft. Hand-tighten screws until all components are in place to allow for adjustment to satisfy the precise tolerances of the holes.
Installing the2.2 KW SPS front tray
1. Align the screw holes on the outer edges of the SPS front tray with the holes on the rack.
2. Secure the tray to the rack with four M5 x 12mm screws, two per side. Select the most widely spread holes on the front tray that line up with holes on the rack. See Figure 5.
