Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) Advisor is software that provides features to ease system deployment and management of Hitachi UCP. This document describes the main functions, system requirements, and troubleshooting procedures to be followed when installing and using UCP Advisor.
This document is not a User’s Guide. Only installation and deployment procedures are covered.
Intended Audience
This document is intended for those responsible for deploying UCP Advisor.
Administrators should have storage, networking, server, and virtualization experience. This document's content is restricted to UCP Advisor deployment and troubleshooting.

About UCP Advisor UCP Advisor is software that provides features to ease UCP system deployment and management, including the following:
UCP Advisor On Board Configuration (ABC): the ability to import existing configuration settings for UCP devices with values read from a .csv file.
Facilitates configuration of VMware software to function with UCP Compute server, Storage array, and Network switch devices, including vCenter, ESXi, vRealize Orchestrator, and vRealize Log Insight.
A vCenter plug-in that provides monitoring and configuration interfaces for UCP devices in the vSphere Web Client.
UCP Advisor is distributed as an OVA format VM template named UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance.
Task Checklist This section provides a high-level overview of how to install and configure UCP Advisor.
1. Obtain the location of the UCP Advisor OVA file from your Hitachi field engineer.
2. Ensure the ESXi 6.0.x hypervisor is installed and configured to deploy the UCP Advisor OVA appliance.
3. Ensure that you have installed and configured the required dependency product: vRO, vRLI and Hitachi Virtual Infrastructure Integrator (V2I).
a) Ensure your system complies with all requirements specified in the Prerequisites section.
b) Follow the steps required for configuring dependencies for UCP Advisor, as explained in Configuring Dependencies for UCP Advisor
4. Make sure that you have acquired a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard license. This license is required during deployment of the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance..
5. Deploy the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance, as explained in Deploying the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance .
6. Apply the current operating system security patches to the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance.
7. Launch the ToolBox from the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance desktop, as explained in Using the ToolBox Deployment Tool.

8. Perform basic UCP Advisor configuration tasks, as explained in Configuring UCP Advisor.
9. Navigate to the UCP Advisor vSphere Web Client Plug-In, as explained in Navigating to the UCP Advisor Plugin.
10. Run the UCP Advisor On Board operation, as explained in Performing an On Board Configuration.
11. Use the UCP Advisor Dashboard to navigate to areas of the application where you want to perform tasks, as explained in Working with the Navigator.
12. Upgrade your 60-day demonstration license to a permanent license. See Obtaining and Applying a Permanent License for more information.
13. Install and configure the vCenter Update Manager (VUM) in another Windows machine for patch management of your vCenter and ESXi host.
Note • Review all operations performed for installation and
configuration of UCP Advisor, making sure that you completed them and that they ran successfully.
• Troubleshoot issues in the application, as explained in Troubleshooting.
• Ensure the VMware vCenter, VMware vRealize Orchestrator, VMware Log Insight, and UCP Advisor Windows appliances are configured with a trusted Network Time Protocol (NTP) server.

The following is software required for UCP Advisor. Prior to deploying UCP Advisor, ensure the required software is installed and configured.

Setting up VMware vRealize Orchestrator
See the Download and Deploy the Orchestrator Appliance section in the Installing and Configuring VMware vRealize Orchestrator online document for information on setting up VMware vRealize Orchestrator, found on the VMware Web site:

Note Automatic log file collection depends on incoming ssh access to
VMware products. To use this feature, configure these VMware products to allow incoming ssh connections.
Setting up vCenter Appliance and vRealize Orchestrator Integration
You must register VMware vRealize Orchestrator (vRO) server with the following:
vCenter Single Sign-On entry portal vRO as an extension with a vCenter Server
To register vRO as an extension with vCenter Server, perform the following steps:
1. Log into the vRO client as an administrator.
2. Click Workflows to display the Workflows view.
3. In the workflows list, select the following path:
Library > vCenter > Configuration
4. Right-click Register vCenter Orchestrator as a vCenter Server extension workflow, and then click Start workflow.
5. Click the vCenter Server instance to register vRO with vCenter Server.
6. Enter the service URL of the vRO server.
7. Click Submit.
Setting up VMware vRealize Log Insight
After configuring UCP Advisor with vRLI, import the UCP Advisor Content Pack to the vRLI. The Content Pack file can be found in the following location in the UCP Advisor appliance:

Also, import both the Microsoft Windows and the Brocade SAN & IP Networks content packs for Log Insight to vRLI and configure the content pack to monitor the UCP Advisor Windows appliance. To perform an import, you first need to download the content pack on the Login Site Content Pack Marketplace.

Setting up Hitachi Virtual Infrastructure Integrator
The V2I plug-in must be configured to complete the deployment. This requires a VM running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard edition. See Hitachi Virtual Infrastructure Integrator Administration Guide (MK-92HNAS003-07) for instructions on installing and configuring V2I.
Deploying the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance
1. Download the UCP Advisor OVA appliance file.
2. Log into the vSphere client.
3. In the Navigator, click Hosts and Clusters. The Hosts and Clusters datacenter list displays and expands.
4. Right-click the vCenter IP address at the top of the Navigator. The vSphere client displays a popup menu.
5. Click the option Deploy OVF Template.
The vSphere Web Client displays the Deploy OVF Template window.

6. Check the Local file radio button.
7. Click Browse. The vSphere Web Client displays a directory of OVA files (with .ova extensions).
8. Select the following filename
Hitachi-Unified-Compute-Platform-Advisor-Appliance-01.1.0.ova
9. Click Next. A screen displays with fields for the VM name and Datastore location.
10. Enter the VM name and Datastore location.
11. Provide the VM name, and then select the inventory location (Datacenter).
12. Click the ESXi host or cluster, and then select the Datastore for the UCP Advisor VM.
13. Select the Disk Format that is most conventional in the deployment environment.
14. Enter a hostname, an IP address, and credentials, and then click Finish in the Ready to Complete window.
15. Power on the UCP Advisor appliance VM.
16. Open the UCP Advisor appliance VM console.
a) Configure the time zone.
b) Apply the Microsoft Windows server 2012 R2 standard license.

c) Configure the administrator password.
d) Log in with administrator credentials.
PowerShell script launches to configure provided hostname, IP address and reboots UCP Advisor VM
e) Log in to the VM with administrator credentials.
The PowerShell script launches again to create a self-signed certificate and bind all UCP Advisor HTTPS ports.
Note If the PowerShell script fails to configure the hostname and IP
address provided during OVA deployment, configure it manually and run the InitializeUcpAdvisorRunningEnvironment.bat file located under the UCP Advisor support directory to create a self-signed certificate and bind all necessary HTTPS ports.
Using the ToolBox Deployment Tool
ToolBox is accessible from the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance desktop, which assists with UCP Advisor configuration.
ToolBox performs the following primary operations: Configures UCP Advisor plugin with vCenter connection information. Adds a UCP System. Configures UCP Advisor vRO plugin and adds vRO connection
information. Configures UCP Advisor with vRLI connection information. Creates a storage array command device and presents it to the UCP
Advisor Virtual Appliance.
Locate the UCP Advisor ToolBox deployment tool icon on the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance Windows desktop, and then double-click it.
The UCP Advisor Management Deployment Toolbox screen displays as shown in the following figure.

The ToolBox includes five input areas. By populating every ToolBox area, it is possible to perform a deployment in one session. The five input areas are as follows:

You can use ToolBox to perform the following operations: Deploy the vCenter Plug-In. Create a storage array command device. Deploy the vCenter Plug-In and create a storage array command

Configuring UCP Advisor
1. In the vCenter Plugin input area: Enter the vCenter appliance management IP address in the VSCA IP
field. Enter a password for the user root in the Root Password field. Enter a username for vCenter in the SSO Username field. Enter a password for vCenter in the SSO Password field.
2. In the UCP input area, enter the UCP Advisor system name.
3. In the vRealize Orchestrator input area, enter the following: IP address Port number (8283 is the VMware default.) Username Password

Note After ToolBox creates the command device LU, the array serial number and LUN are printed. If an MPIO configuration is desired, take note of these values. Once UCP Advisor is fully configured, the Present LUN operation can be used to add additional SAN paths to the command device.
6. If the storage array command device is not detected, reboot the ESXi host as per instruction from the ToolBox. After rebooting, add the command device to the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance as an RDM.
Note When a hostname or a domain of the UCP Advisor Virtual Appliance changes, you need to rerun the script that generates the SSL Certificate and performs port binding: C:\Program Files\Hitachi\UCP Advisor\Support\InitializeUcpAdvisorRunningEnvironment.bat
Installing the V2I vCenter Plug-In

Note • The spreadsheet contains sample UCP device IP addresses. Enter your IP addresses into the spreadsheet in place of the samples.
• You must have SNMP enabled in read-only mode, and the community string value must be public for each of these switches.
3. In the Navigator, click Administration.

Creating a Scheduled Backup
1. In the Navigator, click Administration.
2. Click the Backup tab.
3. In the Backup Schedule area, select the checkbox of the desired day to set a scheduled backup.

Uploading the Firmware Bundle The UCP Advisor Firmware Bundle contains firmware for the Compute devices and for both the Fibre Channel, ICX, and Ethernet switches. The firmware bundle name takes the following syntax:

Upgrading the Device Firmware 1. From the Navigator, click Administration in the Navigator.

Troubleshooting vRLI
Accepting the SSL certificate
Condition: When the vRLI is clicked on in the Navigator, UCP Advisor displays an error message instead of displaying the vRLI login screen.
What it Means: This indicates that the SSL certificate has not been accepted for vRLI for this particular domain.
Corrective Action: The certificate must be accepted.
To accept the SSL certificate, follow these steps:
1. Open another tab on the vRLI login page.
2. Enter the same vRLI IP address in the URL field (for example, https://<IP>/).
3. If the Web browser does not automatically accept the SSL certificate, you may have to manually accept it.
Configuring vRLI
Condition: The vRLI configuration does not work.
What it Means: Incorrect vRLI IP address and credentials may have been entered.
Action: The credentials must be correct when deploying vRLI.
To configure vRLI, follow these steps:
1. From the Navigator, click Administration in the Navigator.
2. Click the Configuration tab.
3. From the vRealize Log Insight area, click the plus icon .
4. Enter a hostname or IP address.
5. Enter a vRLI account and password.
6. Click OK.

Troubleshooting UCP Advisor Session Timeouts Condition: The UCP Advisor session suddenly stops because it has been idle for too long. An error message similar to the following figure may display.
What it Means: This indicates that UCP Advisor plug-in cannot access the Web service.
Corrective Action: Restart the UCP Advisor Web service.
To restart the UCP Advisor Web service, follow these steps:
1. From the taskbar, click Services.
2. Right-click the Hitachi UCP Advisor Services entry, and then click Restart.
If this symptom persists after you restart the UCP Advisor Web service, confirm that the Self-Signed Certificate used for HTTPS access exists. The certificate (UCPAdvisor.cer) should be located in <C:\Program Files\Hitachi\UCP Advisor\Cert>.
If the certificate does not exist in the folder, perform the following steps:
1. Run the following PowerShell command:
New-SelfSignedCertificate -CertStoreLocation cert:\localmachine\<My_DNS_hostname>
2. Run the following PowerShell command:

If the symptom persists even after you create the certificate, clean up the SSL certificate for port 23011 by performing these additional steps:
1. Run this command to identify the SSL certificate:
netsh http show sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:23011
2. Run this command to remove the SSL certificate from port 23011:
netsh http delete sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:23011
3. Optionally, delete the SSL certificate from the certificate store. Locate the SSL certificate with the thumbprint that matches the output Certificate Hash the certificate store called Local Computer in the Certificates MMC Snap-in. Then delete the SSL certificate.
4. Delete all files in C:\Program Files\Hitachi\UCP Advisor\Cert
Also, create and export a new Self Signed SSL Certificate by performing these steps:
1. To create a new Self-Signed SSL Certificate, run New-SelfSignedCertificate. The cmdlet outputs the new certificate thumbprint.
2. In the PowerShell console Window, run the following cmdlet:
New-SelfSignedCertificate -dnsname <host name> - CertStoreLocation cert:\LocalMachine\<My_DNS_hostname>
3. To export the new Self Signed SSL Certificate as a .cer file from the certificate store, run the following command:

Troubleshooting a System Error When Running ToolBox Condition: The installer stalls due to a non-specific UCP system request error as shown in the following figure.
What it Means: This indicates that UCP Web services have not started yet.

Corrective Action: Run the Restart-Service HiUcpServices command.This is a PowerShell command.
Troubleshooting UCP Advisor After Running the Installer Condition: After a successful UCP Advisor installation, it is not possible to access the Dashboard or launch a UCP Advisor instance.
What it Means: This may happen when one or more services required by UCP Advisor are not running.
Corrective Action: Make sure that the required UCP Advisor services are all running. If not, start any stopped services.
1. From the taskbar, click Services.
Verify that all of the following services are running: Hitachi UCP Advisor Services Hitachi vRO Converge Web Service Hitachi UCP Advisor HiTrack Web Service Redis Hitachi UCP VI Service Hitachi syslog agent for vRLI HiWatchdocServiceForUCPAdvisor
2. If one of the services is not running, right-click on the service.
3. Click Restart.
Troubleshooting Slow Performance Condition: You have successfully installed UCP Advisor, but performance for navigation and adding devices is slow.
What it Means: Frequently, this means that several UCP Advisor resources may be overloaded.
Corrective Action: Make sure that UCP Advisor resources are not overloaded. See the Memory and CPU Utilization requirements for more information.
1. Ensure that the hypervisor is not overloaded. If the hypervisor is heavily loaded, consider moving the appliance to a host that is not as busy.
2. Ensure that ample free disk space remains.
