Welcome to Bible Drill.
This is your Bible Drill Field Manual. In this manual, you
will find everything you need to do well in Bible Drill, so
pay attention.
There are many components to succeeding in your Bible Drill
unit. There will be some things which are hard, some very
hard, and some not so hard to do at all.
You will have to be in good physical condition. There is
much PFT (Physical Fitness Training) and you will be tested
often. Do your best, and train at home every day.
You will have to have a Bible, and get used to using it
(after all, this is Bible Drill). Every carpenter has to
know his toolbox. Every warrior has to know his weapon.
Your toolbox is the Holy Scriptures.
Promotion in Bible Drill is based on;
• your Bible knowledge,
• your physical fitness scores,
• your enthusiasm to follow orders quickly
• your contribution to unit cohesion
Welcome to Bible Drill. We’re looking for a few good men.
What are you looking for?

The Bible Drill Slogan
If you’re going through hell, say a prayer and KEEP GOING!
The Bible Drill Code of Conduct
You are expected to live the Code of Conduct. It requires
no explanation. All young men who are in Bible Drill must;
• Not lie, cheat, steal or use profanity.
• Remember that having self-discipline will enable
you to control your body and mind in case of an
emergency.
• Diligently study the Holy Scriptures, and apply
them to their lives in accordance with the
teachings of the Holy Church.
• Obey parents, and all others set in charge of them
whether young or old.
• Keep themselves neat at all times without other
people telling them to.
• Keep themselves clean in mind by attending Church
services regularly and attentively.
• Keep their minds alert and watchful to learn and
observe in school, at home, or at play.

How do we read the Bible?
This is called exegesis. There are three
things you must never forget about Bible
reading. We do not read to build up more
knowledge,(1 Cor. 8:1) for better
arguments. The devil knows a lot more of
the Bible than you do, and he wants to
make you a clever devil. There is a way
to avoid this.
When reading the Bible we read it
______________________

to read the Bible.
Why do we read the Bible?
We read the Bible to better
_________________________ the Gospel
_________________________ the Gospel
_________________________ the Gospel
This is why we study the Holy Scriptures. Any other reason
can make one a clever devil. Don’t fall for it.
Read the Bible the Orthodox Christian way!
Almost all of our worship prayers, and hymns
are_______________________________ from the Bible.

You will be graded in the following areas for promo-
tion to higher rank in Bible Drill.
Marksmanship Bible Memorization
Artillery Faith and Bible knowledge
PFT Physical Fitness Training
Mapping Location of Biblical things
Marksmanship is simple Bible memorization. You must know word-for-word the verses required for each
level. Quotations must be from the Revised Standard
Version or from another version you own.
Artillery is specific Faith and Bible knowledge,
areas more specific than just a Bible verse by
itself.
The PFT will be scored by tables listed in the back of this Field Manual. You must score 200 on your PFT
in order to be promoted. There are special honors for
those who score exceptional scores in their PFT. You
can do it, if you apply yourself.
Mapping is knowing where some person, place or thing
is in the Bible.
Work hard, and don’t give up. Nothing is given to you
in Bible Drill. Everything you get, you earn. Work
hard and encourage those around you to do the same.
If for some reason, you are unable to complete the
requirements for PFC, you will graduate from Recruit
to Private.
See the Appendix for additional uniform information.

SOME HELPFUL HINTS
Getting through recruit training is the first step in
joining Bible Drill. It is tough, demanding and
requires your total effort. You must be motivated.
Here are some tips for getting through.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, or ask for help
from your squad. Bible Drill is designed to make you
do this. If you try to do everything on your own,
you will fail.
No one who simply can pass the test will be promoted.
BIBLE DRILL is about building
men of honor, virtue and endurance.
Once you reach level E-5 (Sergeant) you are eligible
for advanced recognition in Physical Fitness
Training. These awards are: Ranger, Recon, Raider.
LISTEN: You must listen carefully to all instructions
and orders. You will be learning Survival techniques,
First Aid, and much more. Don’t let your mind wander
during these important lessons.
SOUND OFF: We want to hear your man voice not your
little girl voice. When you are spoken to, sound off
loud and clear! Don't be embarrassed about sounding
off too loud. Sounding off shows enthusiasm for Bible
Drill, precisely what we are looking for to promote
you. You can never sound off too loud!
MEMORIZE: There is a lot of simple memorization.
For some people this is hard at first. Don’t worry
one bit. Everyone, and I mean everyone, catches on
quickly.
RESPECT: You must give respect to get respect. You
must respect the authority of all adult and Bible
Drill staff members, and fellow Bible Drillers. There
is no place for disrespect. Any candidate showing
disrespect will be asked to leave the program.
31
31
QUITTERS: Don't be a quitter. Don’t quit! Bible Drill
is hard for everyone in the beginning. Nothing is
given to you. Nothing is handed to you. There is only
one way to advance in Bible Drill. You must work hard
for everything. With hard work you will earn your
rank. Stay with it.
PROFANITY: We have a zero tolerance for profanity.
Get used to not hearing it, laughing at it, or
tolerating it in your presence. Let your past
mistakes go.
GANGS/ALCOHOL/DRUGS: We have a zero tolerance for
gangs, or alcohol and drug abuse. Let your past
mistakes go.
MOTIVATION: Do what you are told willingly and as
quickly as you can. Show the staff that you want to
succeed and you will be rewarded with advance in
rank. No one who simply can pass the test will be
promoted.
BEARING: Make sure you carry yourself with pride and
dignity at all times. Always stand straight, and
attentive. Your posture will be corrected until you
get it right. You must never smile in official
photos. What you are doing is serious. Your clothes
must always be clean and ironed. You must always be
neat, clean and well-groomed. That means no bed-head.
You must always have a fresh hair cut, and be clean
shaven.
PHYSICAL FITNESS: You must pass the physical fitness
test with a score of 200 points or over to graduate.
Start getting in shape now. Upper body strength is
very important. Work on push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups
and running. We are very active in the area of
physical fitness. Start now!

The Honors Recruit
There is special recognition for

Drill Boot Camp unit.
As the honors recruit of his unit, he will take the
first position in line after the squad leader. The
honors recruit will receive special recognition at
promotion from Recruit/Private to PFC.
The Squad Leader
During Bible Drill, the leader will designate a Squad
Leader for that day.
The member designated as Squad Leader is responsible
for the success and care of his squad. He will lead
by example. He will frequently be ordered to do
extra, carry more, eat last, etc.
In all things, the squad leader must exemplify
Christian diligence, endurance, and virtue. The
training at this position is designed to show that
there are burdens in positions of leadership. All
members of the Squad should show their support for
the designated Squad Leader.
