Product Sample Sketching
Part of the morning session is the
activity where the clients were
asked to make rough sketches of
their products to be presented to
the speaker during the one-on-one
consultation. Participants were
also requested to bring actual
product samples of their business
for the possible innovation and
improvement suggestion during the
design workshop.
Design Trends 2015
According to Ms. Viña, the design trends of
the future will be divided into two opposing
innovative forces. The first one is the desire
to look forward and propagate advancements
in these times of fast living while the other
one is the relevance of the renewal of the
past traditions in our quest for authenticity.
Christmas Trends 2014-2015
The speaker also explained what themes, colors,
materials and shapes will be the trend this coming
Christmas up to 2015. She said, from modern to
nostalgic, the spectrum for Christmas trends cover
a range of themes that will surely appeal to
different markets.

Each of the participants was given ample time to have a one-on-one consultation with Ms. Viña
regarding the sketches they made or the products they brought along. The speaker looked at the
client’s ideas and gave suggestions on how they can improve and innovate their existing products.
Adapting the new trends and developing new products can result in an increase in the sales of the
business or expand the market it caters.

Summary of the Activity
The objective of the capacity building is to equip NPFC’s clients with the knowledge, skills, and
abilities to achieve competence in terms of product designs which they can use to adapt in
today’s modern life. Product Development for Market Updating was not just a typical seminar
that is usually organized but it allowed the clients to gain new knowledge through an interactive
and exciting learning experience.
Participants
The design workshop in Manila was attended by 18 clients while there were 24 clients who
participated in the design workshop in Cebu. Most of the attendees were from the manufacturing
and handicraft business who found the seminar very useful to them. They even asked for an
additional time during the one-on-one consultation with the speaker to learn more about what
they can acquire and develop for their business. They were all attentive and willing to learn new
things.
Training Kit and Free CD
NPFC provided the materials
needed by the clients for the
design workshop. The training
kit included memo pads and
pencil for the activity that
required the design and
sketching skills of the
participants. Handouts and
reading materials were also
prepared, for the clients to be able to follow the flow of discussion.
The training kit also includes a free CD that contains all the topics and
trends that was discussed and presented by the speaker.

Seminar Venue
The seminar in Manila was held at the 4th floor Function Room of Semicon Building in Pasig City while
the other one was held at the Diamond Hall, The Golden Peak Hotel and Suites, Cebu City. The seminar
venue was arranged in a classroom setup which is a more classical approach for seminars and training
programs where attendees need work space for notes and other activities. Snacks, drinks and coffee
were also provided for the participants of the whole day seminar.

Seminar Evaluation
After the one-on-one consultation with the speaker, the participants were asked to fill out an
evaluation sheet to know their overall impression of the seminar. They have the freedom to
rate the totality of the event by shading the choices Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and
Poor with Excellent being the highest. The result of evaluation and feedbacks will help the
company improve future Capacity Buildings that will be organized. Both capacity buildings
held in Manila and in Cebu garnered an Excellent rating from all the clients who participated
the event.
