FORIMMEDIATERELEASE8APRIL2021ANCSTATEMENTONTHEESTABLISHMENTOFTHEANCYLNATIONALYOUTHTASKTEAM TheANCtoNationalExecutiveCommittee’sregularmeetingheldonthe26-29March2021resolvedtoappointtheANCYLNationalYouthTaskTeamasacongresspreparatorycommittee.In theJanuary8statement marking the109thAnniversaryof theANC,President Cyril Ramaphosarestated theneed tostrengthentheleagues:“WemustensurethattheANCYouthLeague(ANCYL)holdsitsconferenceearlythisyear.Thiswillhelptobringanendtotheshamefuleraofdivisionandinactivity.Weneedtoengagetheyoungpeopleofourcountrymoreactivelyanddirectly,andensurethattheyareabletoparticipateintheprogrammesoftheorganisation.”TheANCYLNYTTwillprimarilyserveasaNationalCongressPreparatoryCommitteechargedwiththeresponsibilitytopreparetheANCYLforconference.Itskeytasksaretostrengthenandconsolidateexistingstructuresoftheyouthleagueandtobuildnewones in consultation with regions andprovinces. It is also chargedwith the responsibility to developand roll out aprogrammeofaction,bringingtogetheryoungpeoplefromdifferentfacetsasabuild-uptotheenvisagedelectiveconference.TheANCisdeterminedtorebuildtheANCYLandrestoreitsvibrancysothatitcancontinuetofulfillitshistoricmission.Inthe1940s, theANCwasrevitalizedandbecamemoremilitant in its actionsandarticulations. Akeyreason for this was theinfluenceoftheANCYouthLeaguewhoseleadershipincludedgiantssuchasAntonLembede,itsfirstpresident,OliverTambo,NelsonMandelaandWalterSisulu.SincetheformationoftheANCYLin1944,youngpeoplehavebeenatthecentreofeverydecisivemomentinourhistory.Thisproudtraditionofconstructivemilitancyandvigilancewascarriedoverfromgenerationtogeneration.Youngpeoplehave,indeed,earnedtheirplaceinhistorythroughblood,tears,sweatandinnovativeideas.WhentheANCYLwasarelaunchin1991,itsaimswereredefinedasthetwintasksofmobilizingtheyouthbehindtheANCvisionandchampioningtheinterestsofyoungpeopleinsociety.TheLeaguehasbeenandmustremainaninfluentialmasscomponentandbodyofopinionwithinthebroaderANCandserveasapreparatoryschoolforANCactivistsandleaders.

Today,asweseektoconsolidatethegainsofourliberationstruggle,theANCcontinuestolookuptoitsyouthtoonceagainplayaleadingroleinthenationalefforttoconfrontthetriplechallengesofpoverty,unemploymentandinequality.Thecurrentgenerationsofyoungmenandwomenmustcontinuetooccupythefronttrenchesinthereconstructionanddevelopmentofourcountryandremainaforceforprogressivechangeandradicalsocio-economictransformation.ThefollowingyoungpeoplehavebeenappointedtotheANCYLNYTT:
