JOINT STATEMENT ON THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION IN KENYA

His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta today held discussions with UK HighCommissioner Christian Turner, Swiss Ambassador Jacques Pitteloud andofficials of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

All parties agreed on the continued importance of tackling corruption in orderto attract investment, tackle insecurity, and to ensure that the benefits ofeconomic growth are shared amongst all Kenyans.

President Kenyatta stressed once more that attempts to derail the anti-corruption campaign would not succeed.

The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom and the Ambassador ofSwitzerland, on behalf of their respective governments, welcomed the recentstatements and actions of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on the long-standing problem of corruption and acknowledged the recent steps of theKenyan government, notably the charges and arrests in the Anglo Leasingscandal and the moves to address the institutional capacity constraints of theEACC.

They pledged their continued support for the President, Government of Kenyaand EACC in these efforts, and committed to sustain vital assistance that wouldensure that the perpetrators of corruption are held to account and brought tojustice.
