LAYOUT DRAFT OF DIGIPAKBY JOSEPH THOMAS-SAMUELS

FRONT COVER DESIGNThis is my front cover design for my digipak. It has the usual conventions of a digipak front cover which are the main image and the album title. I chose to not include the artists name as I wanted to highlight his star quality and status and show that the artists name isn’t needed to show who he is; instead his image and album title does all of the talking. The main image is a close up image of the artist, to show the artist facial expression in detail. One of the artists eyes resembles the notable Ying-Yang symbol. I included this as it represents two different sides in everyone: the good in the bad and the bad in the good. This highlights the content of the album, as our video is based upon a song by the artist who is determined to get away from his criminal past and become a successful rapper. The clouds and sky represent the thoughts of the artist being at the top of his game and being at the top of the rap game as well.

CD DESIGN

The CD resembles the theme of ‘the streets’ that many UK rap artists are stereotyped to come from. The main focus of the image is a road which clearly represents a street and the physical idea of it rather than the metaphorical side of violence and crime. The road also represents travel and highlights them journey that the artist has gone on from the life on ‘the streets’ to where he is now as an up and coming rapper. The sides of the CD image shows tower blocks representing the city of London where he comes from. These tower blocks also represent the background that the artist comes from.

TRACKLIST

The tracklist page will be in black and white to resemble simplicity. The main image is of the artist on a brick wall; this represents the artists working class roots and his humble beginnings. The artist is dressed in all black to represent the theme of power and mystery. The theme of mystery is used here to intrigue the audience into looking deeper into the album cover. The tracklist has a list of 16 songs that we as a group will discuss to make up.

INNER PANEL

The inner panel of the digipak maintains the theme of the clouds and sky in the background. Also, the Ying-Yang symbol which was featured on the front cover is brought back to highlight the importance that it represemts/
