Int’l fair platform for ‘inventors’from across world: Sheikh Nasser

Event ‘serves as incubator for researchers’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov19, (KUNA): HisHighness Sheikh NasserAl-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah saidthe 8th InternationalInventions Fair in theMiddle East gatherscreative inventors fromnot only the MiddleEast and the Gulfregions but Europe andother parts of the worldas well.

“The fair, to concludetomorrow Thursday, showcas-es the latest technologiesdeveloped by inventors fromKuwait and other nationali-ties,” His Highness SheikhNasser told reporters duringhis visit to the exhibitionWednesday night.

Meanwhile, Minister of Statefor Housing Affairs Yasser Abulsaid the annual event grew in emi-nence over the last years thanks tothe good fame of Kuwait in sup-porting inventions and scientificresearch.

“The fair prepared the groundfor helping the Kuwaiti inventorsto go global and share experiencewith their peers from around theworld,” Abul said in pressremarks.

The minister reaffirmed thegovernment commitment to sup-port young inventors and buildtheir scientific capacities at thebehest of His Highness the AmirSheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-JaberAl-Sabah.

On her part, former rector ofKuwait University Dr. Fayza Al-Kharafi took pride of Kuwaithosting of such scientific activi-ties and the active participation ofyoung inventors.

“Kuwait has an exemplaryrecord in hosting international sci-entific events and guaranteeingthe suitable atmospheres for theirsuccess,” she said, noting that thefair serves as incubator forresearchers and inventors.

Director of Sabah Al-AhmadCenter for Giftedness andCreativity (SACGC) Dr. Omar Al-Banay said the center workedclosely with Kuwait Foundationfor Advancement of Science(KFAS) in setting the stage for thefair and ensuring its success.

“All inventions on display areready for commercialization,” hesaid, noting that investors arepresent at the event for this pur-pose.

“The fair signals Kuwaitendeavor to reduce reliance on oilas the main source of nationalincome; it also shows the abilityof Kuwaiti inventors to contributeto the technological advance-ment,” Al-Banay pointed out.

Mez’el Al-Harbi, director of theinvention and creativity promo-tion division of the GCC PatentOffice, said the office and the fairhave served as twin scientificleverage in the GCC region.

Al-Harbi commended theremarkable improvement in thequality of exhibits and goodorganization of the fair.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 19: TheParliamentary Foreign AffairsCommittee discussed Thursday anumber of draft laws. CommitteeRapporteur MP Mohammed Tan Al-Anazi told reporters after the meetingthat their decision on the draft lawregarding the GCC agreement on com-bating terrorism will be finalized afterthey tackle the issue with First DeputyPrime Minister and Foreign AffairsMinister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah and Minister of Justice, Awqafand Islamic Affairs Yakoub Al-Sanei

or their representatives. He disclosedthe committee will also discuss withthe two ministers the Arab conventionfor combating terrorism.

He said the committee will talkabout suspension of the technicalcooperation between the govern-ments of Brazil and Kuwait with theforeign affairs minister. He added anagreement signed by the govern-ments of Kuwait and Syria is alsopart of the panel’s agenda and thiswill be discussed in the next meeting.

Saudi Foreign Affairs Minister SaudAl-Faisal. He said Kuwait’s Ministryof Foreign Affairs is interested in thismatter since it is now in the process ofnaming a road or building after the lateSaud Al-Faisal in recognition of hisrole during the Iraqi invasion, as wellas his unwavering support for Gulf andArab countries in international forums.

On another issue, the lawmakerstressed the importance of concertedinternational efforts in combating ter-rorism. He affirmed the committeewill discuss the terrorism issue in itsnext meeting. He also called for theelimination of DAESH or ISIS ele-ments in different countries.

KCCI seeks furtherco-op with Turkey’siron, steel industryKUWAIT CITY, Nov 19, (KUNA):The business sector in Kuwait islooking forward to reaching morepartnerships with the Turkish ironand steel sector, said KuwaitChamber of Commerce andIndustry’s (KCCI) board memberHussein Al-Kharafi.

The aim is to help meet the mar-ket’s needs of such products, Al-Kharafi added during a meetingwith a visiting Turkish delegationled by Chairman of the TurkishSteel Exporters’ Association(TSEA) Namik Ekinci.

He noted that Turkey is amongthe major iron exporters in theMiddle East and North Africa(MENA), with a long history ofproviding needs of giant projects.

The Kuwaiti market welcomesthe Turkish companies in the sec-tor, especially after the boom inconstruction and infrastructureprojects in the country.

The KCCI will present the vis-iting delegation with data onopportunities available here, andthe Kuwaiti iron and steel firms,besides the needs of the local mar-ket of both products.

For his part, head of the delega-tion expressed readiness ofTurkish companies to export ironand steel to Kuwait, in line withthe relevant specifications andconditions of the Kuwaiti market.

Turkey’s iron exports to Kuwaitrose by 26 percent so far in 2015,to reach 137,000 tons, Ekinci said,pointing to a rising demand.

Turkish companies aspire to bethe top source of iron exports toKuwait, he said.

He noted that the visit aims toget acquainted with the needs andopportunities of the Kuwaiti mar-ket, in addition to discussing long-term partnerships with theKuwaiti counterparts.

The 40th Kuwait Book Fair was inaugurated on Wednesday, Nov 18 at International FairGround in Mishref under the patronage and in the presence of Minister of Informationand State Minister for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah.A large number of officials from various governmental authorities attended the

Al-Otaibi delivers lecture at Tokyo university

Ambassador provides insight intoKuwait’s geographical importanceTOKYO, Nov 19, (KUNA): Kuwait’sAmbassador to Japan AbdulrahmanHumoud Al-Otaibi gave a lecture here onThursday at the Tokyo University ofForeign Studies (TUFS) under the title of“the democratic and constitutional processin Kuwait”.

The lecture is part of the academic andcultural activities conducted by Kuwait’sEmbassy in Japan in order to introduce theGulf country’s culture and history to theJapanese people.

The diplomat provided an insight intoKuwait’s geographical importance and itshistorical development since the 19th cen-tury.

The lecture was received well by theorganizers and the audience which includ-ed 100 participants from the university’sinstructors and students in addition to peo-ple interested in Kuwaiti culture.

On the sidelines of the lecture, theambassador held a meeting with 50Japanese Arabic language students atTUFS with the attendance of a number ofinstructors.

The students expressed their passiontowards Arabic language and their interestin learning more about Kuwaiti culture.

The ambassador expressed his readinessin hosting them soon in Kuwait, in order toboost the cultural and academic exchangebetween the two nations.

The diplomat also met with theUniversity’s Chairman Dr HirotakaTateishi as well as senior officials at theuniversity.

They discussed means to enhance coop-eration between Kuwaiti cultural institu-tions and TUFS, an establishment foundedback in 1897.

Both sides discussed means of enhanc-ing the exchange of students and aca-demic missions which would contributeto the deepening of mutual understandingand cultural openness between bothnations.

Dr Tateishi expressed his thanks for Al-Obtaibi for giving this lecture, indicatingthe growing desire of new generations inJapan to learn about the culture and historyof the Arab world, as well as visiting theArab region.

Al-Otaibi offered an English languagecopy of the Kuwaiti Constitution, a booktitled “Human rights in Kuwait”, and aminiature traditional Kuwaiti ship “boom”to Dr Tateishi.

Monaco congratulated: HisHighness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent Thursday acable to the monarch of the Principality ofMonaco, Prince Albert II, congratulatinghim on his country’s National Day.

His Highness the Crown Prince SheikhNawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah andHis Highness the Prime Minister SheikhJaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabahsent similar cables.

KRCS distributes 700 aid items:Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) dis-tributed 700 aid items to Syrian refugee fam-ilies in Lebanon. KRCS delegate Ahmad Al-Faghan told KUNA, on Thursday, that 350food rations and 350 detergents were distrib-uted to refugees in Bekkah.

This aid campaign is a continuous effortmade by KRCS to alleviate the suffering ofthe Syrian refugees, he added.

Letter sent on PAI nominees:Minister of Commerce and Industry DrYousef Al-Ali sent a letter to the CivilService Commission (CSC) on the nomi-nees to the director general position in thePublic Authority for Industry (PAI), whichhas been vacant for more than two years,reports Al-Nahar daily quoting souces.

Sources disclosed the minister nominatedthree persons in and outside the authority,asserting the best candidate will be chosen inaccordance with the regulations of the CSC.

Sources affirmed Al-Ali is keen on fill-ing up vacant posts in his ministry, such asthe PIA director general. Sources said thiscame after the Human ResourcesDevelopment Committee in the NationalAssembly started discussions on theappointment of officials in governmentbodies. Sources added many MPs haveacknowledged the importance of this file inregulating work procedures in the publicsector.

MoCI to reshuffle heads: TheMinistry of Awqaf has endorsed a decisionto reshuffle 14 directors, heads of divisionsand supervisors in mosques, as well as theHajj and Islamic Studies Sector, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.
