NEW NIGHT, SAME RESULT: The Dodgers tonight take on the
American League Central’s Minnesota Twins in the middle contest
of a three-game Interleague series and sixth of a season-long tying
10-game homestand (3-2). Los Angeles’ dramatic 6-4 victory last
night was the club’s third straight win and their 47th consecutive
victory when leading a game at any time, which is a Major League
record. The Dodgers own the best record in the Major Leagues at 69-
31 (.690), 2.5 games better than the Houston Astros. Following this
series against the Twins and an off day Thursday, the Dodgers
conclude the homestand this weekend with three games against the
San Francisco Giants.
The Dodgers have won 34 of 40 since June 7, which is the
best 40-game stretch in franchise history since the 1899
Brooklyn Superbas ripped off 34 of 40 on several dates in
May and June (single seasons only). Since June 7, the
Dodgers have been truly dominant:
Dodgers’ Numbers and Ranks – Since June 7
Home Runs 81 – 1st in MLB
Team ERA 3.15 – 1st in MLB
Opponent BA .223 – 1st in MLB
R/G 5.65 – 1st in NL (2nd in MLB: HOU – 6.70)
OBP .361 – 1st in NL (2nd in MLB: HOU - .377)
OPS .884 – 1st in NL (2nd in MLB: HOU - .929)
SOURCE: STATS, LLC
The Dodgers have won 21 of their last 24 games at Dodger
Stadium and are a Major-League best 42-13 (.764) at home
this season, historically outpacing all but the 1953 Dodgers
(60-17, .779) in franchise lore. According to Stats LLC., the
Dodgers’ .764 winning percentage at home would rank
among the best single-season mark by an NL team since the
1975 Reds, who went 64-17 (.790) at home.
The Dodgers’ +176 run differential is the best in the
National League, two runs behind the Astros for the best in
the Majors.
TWINS’ SPIN: The Dodgers and Twins are staging a rematch of the
1965 World Series, won by Los Angeles in seven games. The two
teams have met just 13 times in Interleague play, with the Dodgers
leading the series 7-6 since they first clashed in 2005. Including the
three games in the ’65 series, Los Angeles is now 6-1 against
Minnesota at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers are 10-3 (.769) against the American League
this season and have a strong chance to post their best
Interleague record ever, surpassing the 2002 squad’s 12-6
(.667) mark.
A.L. KILLER: Dodger pitcher Kenta Maeda tonight will make his
16th start of the season and dating back to May 10, he is 6-2 with one
save and a 3.29 ERA (19 ER/52.0 IP) in 11 games (nine starts), while
holding hitters to a .236 average. During that span, Maeda has struck
out 45 batters against 13, while posting a 1.12 WHIP.
Against the American League this season, Maeda is 3-0
with a 1.06 ERA (2 ER/17.0 IP), winning all three starts
against the Angels, Royals and White Sox. In six career
Interleague starts, he is 3-2 with a 3.48 ERA (12 ER/31.0
IP) and has limited batters to a .239 average.
100 DOWN, 62 TO GO: Through 100 games, the Dodgers have the
second-most wins in National League history since the advent of
divisional play in 1969:
NL, Most Wins in First 100 Games of Season - Since 1969
1970 Cincinnati Reds 70 (Lost WS)
2017 Los Angeles Dodgers 69 (??)
1986 New York Mets 68 (Won WS)
1976 Philadelphia Phillies 68 (Lost LCS)
1993 San Francisco Giants 67 (2nd place) SOURCE: STATS, LLC
REALLY CT? AGAIN?: Dodger infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor
collected yet another multi-hit game last night, this time going 3-for-
4 with a run scored and an RBI. Taylor has collected at least two hits
in six of his last seven games and eight of his last 10. In 18 games
during July, Taylor is batting .444 (32-for-72), which leads the Major
leagues this month. Since the All-Star break, Taylor has been
crushing the ball, as he leads the Majors with a .521 (21-for-40)
batting average (min. 30 PA). Since the break, he has nine runs, three
doubles, three triples, two homers and six RBI in 10 games.
Taylor ranks among the National League leaders in batting
average (.318, 7th), doubles (21, T-15th), on-base percentage
(.387, 12th), stolen bases (12, T-12th), OPS (.925, 17th) and
slugging percentage (.538, 19th).
IT’S GOING TO BE UNANIMOUS: Dodger All-Star rookie
Cody Bellinger blasted his 28th home run of the season last night, a
three-run shot in the eighth inning that propelled the Dodgers to a 6-
4 come-from-behind victory. Bellinger’s 28 homers rank second in
the National League, four shy of Giancarlo Stanton (32) and he is
tied for 12th in the NL with 67 RBI, despite playing in just 80 games.
He already has more home runs than any other player in NL history
through 80 games:
NL, Most Home Runs in First 80 Career MLB Games – All-Time
Cody Bellinger, LAD 28 (2017)
Wally Berger, BOS 25 (1930)
Ryan Braun, Mil 24 (2007)
The White Sox’ Jose Abreu also had 28 homers through 80
games in 2014 and the only player in ML history with more
homers in their first 80 games was Detroit’s Rudy York (30,
1934, ‘37), who did so in two different seasons. SOURCE: STATS, LLC
Bellinger leads the Dodgers and is tied for seventh in the
NL with 10 game-winning RBI while batting .337 (31-for-
92) with 15 homers from the seventh inning on. The
Arizona native is also hitting .351 (13-for-37) with five
homers in close and late situations.
BEST IN SHOW: The Dodgers lead the Major Leagues with a 3.18
ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, a .225 opponents’ batting average and 10
shutouts, while leading the NL in strikeouts (951).
The Dodger bullpen leads the National League with a 2.94
ERA (109 ER/334.0 IP), a 1.09 WHIP (1st, MLB) and 3.81
strikeout-to-walk ratio (373 SO/98 BB, 1st MLB). Last
night, All-Star closer Kenley Jansen racked up his 25th
save of the season, which ranks second in the NL.
AIN’T IT GRAND(AL): Dodger catcher Yasmani Grandal ripped
his 14th homer of the season last night and currently ranks among the
top-15 in the NL in doubles (14, T-6th), batting average (.321, 11th)
and slugging percentage (.574, 12th) at home, while stroking nine of
his 14 homers at Chavez Ravine.
Grandal currently leads Major League catchers with 20
doubles, while ranking among the best in hits (76, 4th),
homers (14, T-3rd), RBI (38, 9th), slugging percentage (.493,
3rd) and OPS (.812, 7th).
AS THE RED TURNS: Dodger third baseman Justin Turner went
2-for-4 with a run scored last night and continues to lead the Major
Leagues in batting average (.369) and on-base percentage (.463). On
Thursday’s off day, Turner will be hosting a baseball clinic along
with select area prep and college baseball coaches for 300 kids in
grades 1-8 at Royal High School in Simi Valley. Members of the
media are invited to attend the camp Thursday at 10:30 a.m., where
Turner will conduct a group interview
