This week

Looking ahead

FBC and other

churches have partnered

with The Constellation

Network in the latter’s

annual food

drive to help

fight food

insecurity

among families

and to help

stock food

cupboards

during what is

traditionally a

tough time for

donations.

Food that is collected

at First Baptist Church

will benefit Kennett Area

Community Service.

Look outside the

Sanctuary for paper

grocery bags — with

shopping lists attached —

that can be filled and

returned to the church on

either May 20, May 27, or

June 3.

J.A.M. Christian

Daycare and Brownie

Troop 4424 (which meets

at the church) will also be

participating in the food

drive.

“Our hope is

that by

gathering many

churches

together in one

big event, we

can make a big

impact on a

tough time of

year for our

cupboards and

families in need,” said

Kate Uhler, The

Constellation Network’s

director of community

engagement, in an e-mail

press release.

Reminder: there will be a short business meeting

during today’s worship service.

Strategizing

First Baptist’s softball team gathers for a quick meeting before a recent game.

The team plays Tuesday at home against Stillwaters Presbyterian and Thursday

away against West Grove Presbyterian. Game time for both is 6:30 p.m.

Jeni Pedzinski is one of the

missionaries that FBC supports

through American Baptist

International Ministries. She is

in Thailand. The following is

from her latest journal entry.

My friends,

It’s been quite a while since

my last journal update, so let me catch you up!

I continue to work full-time at New Life Center to

support the local staff on the front lines of trafficking

prevention and after-care for survivors of exploitation and

trauma. It is my great joy to work alongside these capable,

committed women.

Showing compassion by turning toward (not away)

and reaching out to those who are hurting is our costly

privilege. Generally, I am in the office three to four days

per week, and working outside the office

at other times.

With my spiritual and physical health,

many of you know that I experienced a

very low season personally during 2017.

It was extremely difficult. Your prayer

sustained me as I fixed my eyes on Jesus

and put one foot in front of the other.

I'm grateful to say this season has abated,

and I find myself happily in the midst of giving and

receiving life and love in deeply nourishing ways.

Love to you all,

Jeni

Moment for Missions: Update from Jeni Pedzinski

Join us next week as our sermon series takes a

look at 1 Peter 3: 8-22. The apostle Peter writes

Christians who were suffering a letter to speak to their

concerns, calling them to testify to the truth and

challenging them to live according to the truths he

teaches.

The more they knew about Jesus, themselves and

the world, the better they would understand their

situation. Peter’s words from long ago still speak

today. The more we know, the better able we are to

live in the midst of turmoil and chaos.

This epistle was written to give Christians a fuller

understanding of what’s going on: the present

sufferings and the glories to come. The sermon series

continues through June 10.

May 20 1 Peter 3:8-22 Chris Wells

May 27 1 Peter 4:1-11 Nancy Nicewonger

June 3 1 Peter 4:12-19 Communion

June 10 1 Peter 5:1-14
