MDEC - DIGITAL FREE TRADE ZONE (DFTZ)
The Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ), launched in March
2017, is aimed at spurring Malaysia’s economic growth
by providing cross-border e-trade facilities for small and
medium companies, which in the past, found it difficult
to penetrate the international market.
In May, MDEC signed a memorandum of understanding
(MoU) between the Hangzhou Municipal Government
and the Alibaba Group as part of our efforts in
implementing DFTZ project. As the strategic partner to
the DFTZ, Alibaba has invested profoundly into
transforming Malaysia an e-commerce and logistic hub
in the region.
Alibaba and its units are participating in four areas in
the DFTZ: e-fulfilment hub, e-service platform, e-
payment and financing, and e-talent development.
DFTZ officially went live in November 2017
