Wastewater from sinks, toilets, and indoor drains flows to a sewage treatment plant where it is treated before being released into Puget Sound.

•Neverpourorwashanythingintoastorm drainincludingdirtywater,oil,paint,chemical spills,autofluidsorsoapywater(even biodegradablesoappollutes).

•Neverallowliquidfromdumpsters,partsbins, orothercontainerstoleakintothestorm drain.Useappropriatesecondarycontainment.

•Washvehiclesinafacilitywhereallwashwater goestothesewerfortreatment.Ifwashing onsite,makesurewaterdrainstoagravelor grassyarea.

Comply with the Law:Federal,stateandcityregulationsprotectwaterqualitybyprohibitingpollutantdischargestothestormdrainagesystemandourlakes,streamsandwetlands.Bellevuereliesprimarilyonpubliceducationandvoluntarycorrectiveactionstoachievecompliance;however,dischargingpollutantsintostormdrainsorwaterbodiescanresultinfinesof$500perdayormore.

TheBellevueStormandSurfaceWaterUtilityCode24.06.125prohibitsstormandsurfacewaterpollution.TheCitywillworkwithyouonthecorrectwaytorecycleordisposeofwastematerialsandsignificantlyreduceyourpotentialliabilityfromcodeviolations.Wewillalsoworkwithyoutomarkstormdrainsonyourpropertywiththemessage“Don’tPollute,DrainsToStream.”Call Bellevue Utilities at 425-452-6932 for more information.

Carpet Cleaners:Disposeofdirty,soapywaterinasink,toiletorotherdrainconnectedtothesanitarysewer–nevertoastreet,gutter,parkinglotorstormdrain.

Restaurants and Grocery Stores:Disposeofmopwaterinautilitysinkconnectedtoagreasetrap,notoutside.Makesuredumpstersdonotleakanyfluidintothestormdrain.Donotrinseorwashcookingequipmentorfloormatsinparkinglotsoroutsideareas.Disposeoffats,oilandgreaseproperly;smallamountscangointhegarbage.
