Annual Meeting October is the month our By-Laws require our club to hold an annual meeting in order that a new Board be nominated and elected. It gives me
great pleasure to present your 2013 Board of Directors:
Linda Barrett, Commodore Mindy McCabe, Secretary
Betty Foster, Vice Commodore Brad Bradford, Trustee
Chris Dailey, Rear Commodore Bob Ellis, Trustee Claus Dassel, Fleet Captain Tom Napier, Trustee
Deborah McFarlane, Treasurer Vanessa Finch, Staff Commodore
Congratulations to all and a hearty welcome to new Board members Chris, Claus,
Deborah and Bob! Please give them your support when called upon. I want to thank
Doug Duehning, our outgoing Treasurer (who went above and beyond by serving for six years), Ron Kostanich, outgoing Trustee and Larry Lien, outgoing Fleet Captain for their
valuable service to SBYC.
This year at our annual meeting we also had two revisions to our By-laws to consider
and both received unanimous votes of approval.
Academy Awards A red carpet and celebrity inter-
viewer welcomed the 114 “stars”
arriving at our Annual Meeting.
Thank you very much to hosts Carolyn & Jerry Morris and their
retinue of Hollywood notables who
produced this memorable event.
The evening had it all: unique
costume party, delicious pasta dinner, Oscar presentations for
“Bests” in several categories,
followed by dancing to the Jim
Barrett Orchestra. Two thumbs
up to the cast of this outstanding
dinner: Carolyn & Jerry Morris, Tom & Dee Ihrig, Sharon & Bud Busony, Dennis
& Sally Massoth, Pat & Ron Kostanich
and Jackie & Larry McKean.

Dolphin Newsletter Online – How is it working for you?
It has been six months since we introduced the option of viewing the Dolphin
online and discontinuing receipt of a paper Dolphin in the mail. We have received
feedback that opting out of receiving a paper Dolphin has not worked out well for
some. Having a printed copy had made it easier to use the Dolphin as a reminder
of upcoming events.
It is important to the Board that the Dolphin be easily accessible and enjoyed by all
members. It is our club’s official “communication organ” that records news in a monthly
snapshot that can be retrieved for future reference. While cost savings are important considerations, they
must not supersede the usefulness of the Dolphin. Therefore . . .
If you opted out and would like to begin receiving your Dolphin in the mail again, please let
Linda Barrett know by contacting her at [email protected] or 466-3027.
2013 Membership Renewals You should have received your membership renewal form in the mail in the past month.
Please submit your dues before November 30th if you wish to remain a member. Thank you!
From Shelter Bay’s Harbor Committee, Chair—Mike Silhan
The Shelter Bay harbor committee is looking for new members.
Do you have an interest in Shelter Bay and all things water and boat related? If so please consider joining
the Shelter Bay harbor committee.
The Shelter Bay harbor committee is made up of volunteers who process private dock and marina issues
in addition to providing recommendations to the board and the Shelter Bay manager on the operation,
maintenance and strategic decisions for the marina. The harbor committee will be playing a key role in
future changes needed to insure that the marina continues to be viable and a focal point of our community.
Extended absences by current harbor committee members has created the need to expand the committee membership.
If you are a Shelter Bay community member, please consider volunteering to join the harbor committee
If you would like to know more about the harbor committee contact Mike Silhan, committee chair.
[email protected] or 466-4348. Committee applications are available in the Shelter Bay office.

Seven Wonders
(author unknown)
A group of students were asked to list what they thought were
the present Seven wonders of the World. Though there were some disagreements, the following got the most votes:
1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal 5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter’s Basilica
7. China’s Great Wall
While gathering the votes, the teacher noticed that one quiet
student hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, "Yes,
a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were
so many." The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and
maybe we can help." The girl hesitated, then read,
"I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:
1. To touch
2. To taste
3. To see
4. To hear
She hesitated a little, and then added:
5. To feel
6. To laugh
7. To love.”
The room was so full of silence you could have heard a pin
drop. Those things we overlook as simple and ordinary are
truly wondrous.
This Thanksgiving as you contemplate what you are thankful for, consider the wonders in your life. I think you will find not a single one is man-made.
