By Abubakar ImamProf. (Mrs) Salman, Dean, Faculty of Education
erudite teacher enrolled at the Better By Far University of Ilorin for her Master's and Doctorate degrees in the same field, which she successfully accomplished in 1990 and 1997, respectively. In 2012, the Dean of "the Mother of all Faculties", an appellation by which the Faculty of Education is commonly addressed, was found worthy of elevation to the highest attainable rank for academics in a University and so she was consequently appointed Professor of Mathematics Education of this great University, which she joined 13 years earlier. Her well-deserved elevation to the rank of a Professor in 2012 subsequently made her the first daughter of Ilorin Emirate to sit on a professorial chair. Over the last two decades in which she has been in the services of this University, Prof. (Mrs.) Salman has given her due to the system, having served in various capacities. Between 1999 and 2013, she was an Academic Adviser to Mathematics Education students of the University at different levels (100-400levels) among other responsibil i t ies entrusted to her.
Outside the University community and, most especially, within her professional constituency, Prof. (Mrs.) Salman has been a star participant, holding different positions of high responsibilities at both local and national levels. She was the National Financial Secretary of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria between 2007 and 2011.She was the Chairperson of the Kwara State chapter of the same body in 2014, which she had previously

Education is the Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin and in fact the first female Dean of the Faculty. Born on the June 30, 1958 in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Prof. (Mrs.) Salman is one of the very few academics who can be said to be an all-round teacher with the practical knowledge and experience of what real teaching is all about across every sphere of the Nigerian education system. Prior to her joining the services of the University of Ilorin in February 1999 as Lecturer II, Prof. (Mrs.) Salman taught at Pakata L.G.E.A Primary School, Ilorin, between 1978 and 1979.She also taught in various secondary schools across Kwara State from 1985 to 1999. In between those 14 years, the consummate educationist was a part-time Lecturer at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, where she assisted in producing teachers of Mathematics for different primary and secondary schools from all-over Nigeria who attended the pioneer middle-level teacher training institution in Kwara State. Prof. (Mrs.) Salman started her formal schooling at Pakata L.G.E.A Primary School, Ilorin and eventually completed her elementary studies at St. Joseph Catholic School, Ayangba, Kogi State, in 1971. Between 1972 and 1976, this seasoned teacher was at the famous St. Clare's Grammar School, Offa, for her School Certificate course.
Being a focused teacher, this intellectual enrolled for a year Pivotal Teacher Training programme at the then Ilorin Teacher's College, Ilorin, which she ran between 1976 and 1977. In 1979, she proceeded to the then Advanced Teachers' Training College (now Federal College of Education), Pankshin, Plateau State, from where she earned her NCE in Mathematics and Chemistry in 1981. Prof. (Mrs.) Salman, thereafter, proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from where she obtained a Second Class (Upper Division) degree in Mathematics Education in 1985. Determined to reach the pinnacle of her teaching career, this
served as the Vice-Chairperson between 2012 and 2014. She also served as the Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2014 edition of the Annual National Conference of the Association, which Kwara State successfully hosted. She was also the Leader of the Kwara State Contingent to the 2015 National A n n u a l C o n f e r e n c e o f t h e Mathematical Association of Nigeria, which held at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. Besides, this alluring doyen of Mathematics Education is a very active Member of the National Association of Women Academics, University of Ilorin branch, as well as the Science Association of Nigeria and the National Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluators.
As a deeply religious fellow, she is a Member of the University of Ilorin Muslims Ladies Circle as well as the Ilorin Emirate Community, which she served as Treasurer between 2007 and 2011. F o r h e r s e v e r a l accomplishments here and there, Prof. (Mrs.) Salman has received several awards and honours such as the one by the umbrella socio-cultural organization of the people of I l o r i n , t h e I l o r i n E m i r a t e Descendants Progressive Union ( IEDPU); the Dis t inguished Mentorship Award from the Ubandawaki Youth Development Association; Merit Award of the Pakata Muslim Community, Ilorin; Meritorious Service Award from the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin Chapter of the Ilorin Emirate Students Union and, of course, Fellow of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria. Just recently, this distinguished academic was conferred with a Special Recognition Award by an Ilorin-based socio-cultural organization, the "Pakata Patriots", Ilorin, for being what the Association referred to as an "outstanding model". It was, therefore, not surprising that this exciting scholar, inspiring teacher and unassuming educational administrator was unanimously elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, a position she assumed on August 1, 2018 and had since being giving a good account of herself as an efficient manager of human and material resources.
