ITER PROJECTRADIAL PLATE SERIES (70 PARTS)
Fusion for Energy (F4E), the European Unionorganization managing Europe’s contributionto ITER, has awarded the consortium SIMIC– CNIM the contract to manufacture 70radial plates for ITER.
The contract is expected to run for 4 yearsand is among the biggest industrialcontributions of Europe’s share to the ITERtoroidal field magnet system.
These radial plates are « D » shapedmechanical structures of measure 13.8 m x8.7 m x 110 mm. They are made from316LN stainless steel and they will form the‘backbone’ of the 18 field magnets needed tokeep the plasma confined within the ITERvacuum chamber.
The radial plates have on each side spiralround-shaped grooves which are closed bycover plates.
