Principals Report—New Build Start
As you are aware, the new build has started and you will see trucks etc moving in and out of the area. Please be aware that Ilma Rise may have some road congestion at times. We will notify parents via the school app about any major earthworks, concreting etc. happening so that every-one is aware. It is very exciting to finally see things happening. If you have any issues or con-cerns about any aspect of the build, please let the school know so that we can inform the builder or the architect.
Parents approaching other students or their parents about issues
that happen at school.
If a problem happens at school between 2 students, please let the school deal with the issue. A parent or family member approaching a student or their family about something that happened at school is not acceptable. This is a form of intimidation, particularly when children are in-volved and can cause angst for children and parents.
If you have an issue with something another child has allegedly said or done, please let the school know so that it can be dealt with by our staff in a restorative way, where all children in-volved get to have their say in a safe environment, where a solution or agreement is put in place and consequences applied by the school when deemed appropriate. Thank you for helping to keep our school, a safe and caring environment.

If you are interested in being a classroom parent rep for your child's class, please let Di Miller know.

Harmony Day
Students enjoyed participating in rotational activities as part of our Harmony Day celebrations on Fri-
day. We sampled food from different countries including Australian kangaroo meatballs, Irish scones,
American hot dogs, Japanese sushi, Italian meatballs and pizza, biscuits from the Netherlands and spring
rolls from the Philippines. A big thank you to Mrs Addinall, Mrs Clark, Mrs Hughes, Mrs Hankin and Mrs Rod-
den, for sharing your wonderful culinary skills with the children.
We also traced our hands then cut them out to fill a large map of Australia. You can find the display in the
front office. We enjoyed learning an Aussie bush dance called the Heel Toe Polka and learning about
the Irish, Kenyan and Chinese flag colours.
Lastly we went to the hall and watched a video about a guy called Mat who performed a funny dance in
many countries around the world. Thank you to everybody who made this special day a success.
Autism Awareness Day—Friday 8th April
WHAT IS WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY AND LIGHT IT UP BLUE?
World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), observed on April 2, was adopted by the United Nations in 2007 to
shine a bright light on autism as a growing global health priority. Every year on World Autism Awareness
Day, Autism Speaks celebrates its international ―Light It Up Blue‖ campaign. Thousands of iconic land-
marks, skyscrapers, schools, businesses and homes across the globe unite by shining bright blue lights in
honour of the millions of individuals and families affected by autism. Individuals everywhere wear blue in
honour of our community.
Light It Up Blue
Spreads awareness and understanding of autism
Celebrates and honours the unique talents and skills of people with autism
Brings attention to the needs of all people with autism
Please send your child/ren to school on Friday 8th April in blue with a gold coin donation, which will be do-
nated to the Autism Speaks charity.
COMMUNITY NOTICES
AdoptASchool Association Inc
CAN YOU HELP?
AdoptASchool Association has several programmes, one of which is the sister school relationship which your school is
a member. In addition, AAS has a sponsorship programme whereby one person or one family sponsors a particular
child through school. The children on the AAS sponsorship list are from very needy backgrounds and the family must
meet strict criteria for a child to be accepted onto the programme. Families are assessed by our coordinators in Bali
and an application is sent to AAS in Perth. These children all deserve the opportunity for an education but are often
denied due to the financial situation of their family.
If you or your family would like to sponsor a child’s education, there are many children on the AAS waiting list who
would benefit. The cost for a year for an elementary school child is $100 and when they graduate to High School it is
approximately $200. If you visit Bali on holiday, there is an opportunity for you to meet the coordinator and spon-
sored child and their family and this can easily be arranged.
AAS, with the cooperation of the Education Department of Bali, has developed a financial circle of accountability
whereby all sponsorship funds are paid via our coordinators directly to schools and not families. Receipts are issued,
signed and stamped by the schools and returned to AAS Perth for confirmation of funds paid.
For more information please go to www.adoptaschool.org.au and click on the ‘Sponsorship’ tab. If you are interested in assisting a child gain an education there is an application form at the bottom of the information.
