TransitionsWhen looking at transitions, which will be key in helping to develop the narrative, by using fades and dissolves at the beginning of the trailer, we can then develop the pace. Also by using fades we can create the ‘fantasy’ child like atmosphere.

Explanation of shot(s) We decided to use a establishing shot, so the audience will be able to understand where exactly the trailer is set, by using a forest at the beginning of the trailer, we aim to lure in our audience, as this is the first thing they will be seeing, this will also help to establish our genre. This shot will last for 4 seconds, we did this so that the audience can have a vivid idea of the type of genre, they can take in the atmosphere and it will also help set the mood. Using an establishing shot for the first shot, will help intrigue the audience, it will open the trailer, similar to the way a child will open a book and establish where the story is set. In addition to this, by using this shot we aim to twist this child like notion by using dark lighting in order to appeal to our older audience.

SoundAs a way of developing and keeping our genre we aim to use mother lullaby 2.0, through research we found this lullaby on youtube. We felt that by using this lullaby it will help to form our genre, also it will interest our audience. When looking for different sound effects, we felt that by using a lullaby and having a twist on it, it will help set the mood of the trailer.

Low angle panning shot is following the opening shot, in order to maintain the ‘creepy’ atmosphere, we chose to use a low angle, to show the dominance of the house in both scenes. Also by using a range of shots, such as this low angle, we believed it will interest the audience rather than using generic standard shots. In addition to this we felt that a low angle will help develop the genre.

By using another low angle shot, which is quicker than the 2nd low angle shot, we want the audience to be aware of the surroundings. We aim to use an old Victorian type house, to again adapt the era of the trailer. Also we aim to keep the ancient feel to this modern twist. By using the low angle shot, the house automatically holds dominance. This shot will last 3 seconds, we didn’t want to dwell too much on this house, because it has been shown previously. Also we will use a zoom into the door of the house, through research into real media text, we learnt that zooms are popularly used, and it can also create a gothic type atmosphere.

TRANSITIONS In this group of shots we will be using mainly dissolves and fades, we want the beginning of the trailer to take a more subtle atmosphere.

Explanation of shot(s)This is a zoom ,extreme close up, by doing this the audience will automatically be drawn into this particular scene, they will be interested in what is followed by the zoom . Also by using dark lighting again the creepy atmosphere is created, the audience are automatically curious about what the scene entails. This scene will only last 2seconds so in this we have to successfully convince our audience to want to watch more, by using this particular shot we felt that our audience would want to know more about the trailer.

In this scene we have Red Riding Hood, skipping through the forest, in a happy manner, this automatically creates the child like atmosphere. We still wanted the innocence attached with this fairy tale to be apparent, and by doing this we felt we could still keep that notion. Whilst this scene is being developed we will accompany it with the creepy lullaby, this will create dramatic irony, the audience will know something is up but the characters will not. This will give the audience a sense of power, they will feel more involved in the trailer, therefore luring them in to want to watch more. Also by using this the character is being presented to the audience, we wanted Red Riding Hood to be the first character the audience will see because we felt that she holds the most importance in the trailer.

Here we have our company name, we aim to advertise our company, when devising this we also came up with the idea to collaborate with another company, we looked at different industries who might produce the thriller genre, we then researched ‘Universal Pictures’ and found they popularly produce thriller/horror films. We then incorporated our names into a final company name called ‘KEM’, which simply stands for ‘Kianna, Elizabeth & Mary’.

Transitions When thinking of transitions take place we wanted to use straight cuts because, we didn’t want to much fuss around this particular shots.

Dialogue The dialogue we will use in these shots is a voice over, we wanted to use a voice over because we felt we could create a mythical type atmosphere. Also we can help create the genre, we used real media text such as ‘Captivity’ which uses a voice over, through this we also felt tension and fear, this is something we want to create within our trailer, so we aim to imitate this.

Explanation of shotsIn this shot we will be using a long shot, within this long

shot we will be showing the huntsman on a motorbike, by doing this we aim to use this as a way of again presenting another character and also as a way of modernising the fairy tale. We also wanted the huntsman to be perceived as more masculine, so we used the typical representations of men and their bikes as a way of devising this shot. This shot will last 3 seconds, and will consist of ambient sound and motor bike sound effect. We want the trailer to begin with a very light tone, then to develop and the pace and suspense to be heightened by the end of the trailer.

In this over the shoulder shot, we wanted to place the audience to fell in a place of importance as they can directly see what the character sees. In using this shot we wanted the character to be viewed as a macho man, displaying his strength. We will use ambient sound and keep the motorbike sound effect in order to keep the masculine fluidity throughout the shots, this shot will last for 2 seconds, we wanted the shots to be quick, with shots showing exactly what we want to portray.

In this high angle shot of Red Riding Hood, we want to again show the character, as a way of creating a non-linear narrative. By mixing the shots and not placing them in a linear narrative we felt this will interest in the audience because they will be required to focus more, also it will require more participation by the audience.

TransitionsWe will use straight cuts as a way moving from one shot to the other in this scene. We wanted this shots to be quick and straight to the point.

Explanation of Shots

This shot will show Red Riding Hoods basket using a close up, by doing this the audience will again be presented with the character of Red Riding Hood, we use this as a way of displaying the basket. The basket has many connotations and will also help develop the narrative.

In this close-up we aim to present another character, Red Riding Hoods grandma. The grandma will have no speech, so in order for the audience to know she is un well, by having a close up of her wrinkled hand, the audience will be able to make judgements on the grandma. Also they will be able to guess how old she is, and the extent of her illness. We will use natural lighting in this shot, we didn’t want to add or take away from this scene. Again by using her unattractive hand, it will be another way of developing the gothic/thriller genre. We will use a voice over in this shot, again as a way of creating the story, innocent, fairy tale atmosphere.

In this long, high angle shot, the audience will be presented with the character of the grandma, by using the high angle the audience will be placed in a more important role as they will be looking down on the grandma, this has importance due to the fact she has no strength. By using a long shot, they will be able to see the surroundings but also see the expression on grandma’s face. We will have slow sound effects as a way of building up the tension in the trailer await the arrival of something potentially harmful. This shot will last 3 seconds as we wanted it to be quick and not bore the audience.

Explanation of Shot(s) In this shot we will show the witches shadow, which will be a long shot. We will edit this image so that the witches identity is never revealed, through research into real media text we found that the identity of the villain is rarely revealed, as this is a teaser trailer we want to lure the audience, the possibility that her identity will be revealed will be particularly effective in attracting the audience. We want to use a long shot so the audience will be able to indentify the body of the character.

Shot length: 2seconds.

Through our research of intertitles and tag lines we learnt these play a key part in the development of narrative and hyping up of a trailer, so we decided by placing the intertitle here, it will add to the narrative. We felt that mixing text and images it will be more interesting and intriguing for the audience.

Shot length:2-3 seconds.

In this shot we have the mother directly giving a warning to Red Riding Hood in a long shot. We wanted bring in the original plot and we felt in order to keep the non linear narrative we decided to place the warning right in the middle of the sequence. Also to show level of importance we placed Red Riding Hoods mother at a higher level than Red Riding Hood. This scene is very important in forming the narrative of our fairy tale, so in order to keep the audience focused directly into what is being said we have decided to use very subtle, spooky sound effects, we don’t want to defer too much from the genre yet we aim to captivate the audience. Another decision we made was to use a long shot we did this because we wanted to present both characters at the same time, also we wanted the audience to see their body language and facial expressions, this will play a part in forming hierarchy and importance within the scene.

Shot length:6-9 seconds.

TRANSITIONS This scenes will develop through straight cut transitions, we didn’t want to take away from the shots or make them too busy, we felt that by using straight cuts it will take the audience directly we want to show.

Explanation of shot(s) In this shot we have a close up of the witches feet, we want to scare our audience and by suddenly showing the witches gruesome feet, the audience will already be anticipating something scary, which will consequently thrill our audience. Our audience want to be scared, they want suspense, so by showing them such gruesome things these emotions can be created. We aim to flash the witches feet quickly and then follow into a tagline, we did this because we felt if we kept the image on the screen for too long, it will loose the impact it originally had.

Shot length:3seconds

We have placed another intertitle here again to develop the narrative and to mentally prepare the audience for the next scene and to overcome what they have been previously shown. Again to keep fluidity within the trailer we will still have the spooky sound effect.

Shot length: 3seconds

This shot will be a long shot of the huntsman running in the woods, which will have a soundtrack of very spooky sound effects mixed with digetic sound of the huntsman’s heavy breathing, we decided to again use a long shot because we want the audience to see clear facial and body language. Also we placed this scene to trick the audience, through the previous scene the audience will automatically believe that the witch is after the huntsman, we did this as a part of adaptation we did to the original narrative of the fairy tale. By doing this the audience will be more likely to focus more on what is happening, rather than be distracted. By having the character flash across the screen the audience will be more attentive, rather than get bored, they will anticipate something to happen.

TRANSITIONSWe will use flash transitioning in these shots, as a way of creating quicker images as the pace of the trailer begins to quicken. If we flash the shots, the audience will pay more attention. This will act as a way of teasing them, luring them into wanting to watch more.

Explanation of Shot(s) This close up follows the previous shot of the huntsman running, we used a close up because we wanted the audience to be clear of how tired he is, we aim to keep the heavy breathing the same in terms of digetic sound, again by having the huntsman running the audience will be more interested in what is happening and this will maintain the tempo and create suspense and excitement. The audience will be left wanting more.

Shot length:3 second

In this wide shot of the church, it will aim to set the scene and show a direct shot of the cross. We did this because we wanted to imitate the adaptation of Red Riding Hood, where Red Riding Hood was in front of a church, we wanted to change this and have Red Riding Hood inside the church with very dim lighting to create a spooky atmosphere, we wanted to play with the idea that a church is a safe place. We aimed to adapt this and create the illusion that there isn’t a safe place. Consequently Red Riding Hood’s scenario is never solved. We liked the connotations with using a church, we liked the grand architectural work of a church and believed it will fit perfectly with Red Riding Hood. We felt in order to create tension and suspense in the audience if we had Red Riding Hood, the possibility she may be saved creates irony. The audience will never know what happened to Red Riding Hood.

Shot length:8-10 seconds.

Again we have another intertitle, we purposely did this to agonise the audience, we felt by doing this the audience will be left wanting more, they would want to know more, and by scrutinising how we give them more they will be more focused and would want to know the outcome of the individual characters.

Shot length: 2-3 secondsTRANSITIONS As the trailer will be much quicker than it was in the beginning, we will be using straight cuts appose to fades. We looked at real life thriller/horror trailers and saw this is the style in which they all adapt, so we will be imitating this style because we felt it will appeal to our target audience more.

Explanation of Shot(s)An extreme close up of the Holy Bible, which will have digetic sound of the pages flickering and the church bell ringing, by using an extreme close up the audience will automatically pay attention to the scene, they will be drawn into the scene, we also have kept the idea of religion following which will make the audience question their own judgment.

Shot length: 1 second

Another close up of the candle, and a non digetic blow out candle sound and the bell from the church, creates the idea of symbolism, the fact the candle is being blown out may symbolise death of some sort or a characters wish may be granted. We created this ambiguity because this is a teaser trailer and the solution must never be revealed. We like the way this shot creates ambiguity which consequently keeps the tension with the audience and creates suspense.

Shot length: 2 seconds

This high angle shot of the cross, is supposed to show the importance that religion holds in society, the audience will be shown a grand image of a cross whilst the digetic sound of the bell is carried on, we used a high angle shot because we felt that this angle will be more interesting and place the audience in a place of importance, they will feel in charge. Maybe the cross symbolises hope or faith. The true motif is never revealed which will be particularly interesting for the audience.

Shot length:3-4 seconds TRANSITIONS From the first shot to the second shot, we will be using a straight cut, we felt by using a straight cut, it will present the images rather quickly, we considered using a dissolve or fade but felt it will slow down the pace of the trailer too much. We also had to consider that the trailer is coming to an end, and the pace must be quickened for suspense, thrill, tension and mystery to be created.

Explanation of Shot(s) In this long side shot would be used to show Red Riding Hood running through the forest, we decided to use a long shot because we wanted the audience to see where the shot is being established. We decided to have this chase as a way to end the trailer with a big bang, we felt that by starting with Red Riding Hood, the audience will be more intrigued to understand why the character is running. Also we wanted to grab the audiences attention, we wanted to create mystery through the use of this shot.

Shot length:1-2second(s)

An extreme close up is used to show the witch’s facial expression and indeed how this character is a character of fear. We wanted to collectively merge the chase with the end scene of the story tale because we felt it was far more interesting rather than having them follow in a typical standard formation. We also wanted to create mystery, when we watched “Captivity” trailer we saw how they successfully merged completely different scenes together and made them link together. We did this as this will be one of the last things the audience will see, so we felt if we merged the scene with Red Riding Hood encountering the witch with the chase we could really create mystery which will keep the audience interested in the trailer. Shot length: 2-3seconds

Sound: (digetic) heavy breathing sound effect. We used this sound effect because we felt it will best interest the audience and also create tension amongst the audience.

This long shot has no correlation between Red Riding Hood running, we mixed up the sequence of the chase because we wanted the audience to be taken to a peak, just to be left there, again we used another long shot to give a range of perspectives and also to show the scenery behind the huntsman, by having the characters to zoom across the screen, the audience will automatically not want to miss anything. So we felt be using the chase it could not only keep their focus but also keep them on the edge of their seats.

Explanation of Shot (s)In this close up of the witches hand the audience will be expecting to maybe see the identity of the witch, we did this in order to tease the audience, we want them to want more, to keep interested in the trailer, as this will be the close of the trailer, the audience will be expecting more, but they will be let down. The witch’s hand is symbolic because the original fairy tale uses this as a way6 of the grand reveal of the wolf, rather the witch is never revealed. We used a close up to again show the difference between the witch and the grandmother, which will consequently create dramatic irony.

Shot length: 3seconds

As the trailer returns back to the ‘chase’ we have placed directly behind the huntsman to create the idea that the witch is chasing the huntsman, we did this to confuse the audience, this will be last thing they’ll see, and we wanted to still captivate their interest and persuade them to watch the movie. We used a long shot to give full body language of the witch. Her identity will still not be revealed which we feel will have a stronger impact on the audience because they’ll want to know who the witch is.

Shot length: 1 second

The BLACKOUT, we have done this purposely, we don’t want our audience to be satisfied in terms of the solution ever being revealed. By doing this accompanied by the bell, we will end the trailer on a dramatic note. The audience will want more, they will want to watch the movie to see exactly what happens to all the characters.

Shot length: 10 seconds

TRANSITION The first shot will use a straight cut then use a dissolve into the final scene, we did this to bring the adrenaline of the trailer together, but the sound track is enough to still hold the suspense as the trailer comes to a close.
